Strange idle jump?

Hey guys,

My 123 has developed an issue. If I am sitting on the scoot it idles just fine, but if i lift up a bit off the seat the idle climbs like crazy, enough so that it needs to be shut down or it will take off. Sit back down on the seat idle drops back to normal? Any body else have this happen? Any ideas on what might be causing this?

From your description it sounds like a throttle cable problem. May be something pulling on the cable when the shocks raise the bike back up. That's all I've got.

Hmmmm, I just changed the throttle cable, so that could very well be it.
I don't notice any play in the throttle, when it happens.
If this is the issue it has to be happening from the carb to the splitter.
I'll pull some plastics and let ya guys know what find out.

People always leave out the important facts. Check your routing. It's probably pulled tight somewhere.

The devil is in the details, as they say. After checking how I had it routed, I noticed that I had it going over the bar that the pet carrier bolts into, causing it to get pinched between the bar and the pc, every time the shocks went up.
I believe I have solved this problem her idle seems fine and it's runnin better than it has in awhile.
Now to replace my clutch with a new Hit clutch or go with a stock?

Doesn't your 123 already have a HiT clutch on it?

yeah, but it's going out, and I'm not sure if I want to replace it with another one or revert back to stock.
I'll probably stay with it, since it's there.

What do you mean by "going out"; is it slipping under power?
If so, did you pull the bellhousing & check the shoes?
If the shoes are still good, then try removing the pillow springs.
You might like it better that way anyhow.

The guy that had it before me beat the hell out of it.
I took it to my guy to look at, and he told me, the shoes were about shot on it, wouldn't be too long and it will need to be replaced.
So to me that means it's on it's way out, or "going out"
I have not noticed any change in performance, but it is in the back of my mind that my clutch is on it's last legs and will need to be replaced.
I'd like to do it before it's a major failure and leaves me stranded some place.

The Hit shoes are pretty thin to start with, however they are tough.

If the shoes are truly worn down then yes, you should replace the inner assembly. The bell should still be good. If you let it go too long however, then the shoe plates will score the clutch bell.

Think about this; the higher RPM the engagement point, the quicker the shoes will wear down, all other things equal. Speed, friction, & heat are a deadly combination...
