Best Roughhouse R50 performace parts?
Hey all,
I've had my un-restricted 2012 Roughhouse for a couple months now, and while it's pretty quick stock I wouldn't mind making it sound better/a bit faster. I've been looking at parts on Monsterscooterparts.com and it seems a 70-81 cc engine swap with a performance exhaust and carb is the best route to take. Can anyone give me some advice on best parts/prices to look at and what you've done to your Roughhouse? Thanks.

I'm running a 70cc BBK using the Malossi MHR 70cc kit. The carb has been upgraded to a DelOrto 21mm using approx 95 mainjet (it's a drilled out 83, so eyeballing it). I've upgraded the airbox by cutting out some of the tuning holes and redid the shaving so it's like a ventruri filter (helps increase flow and keep turbulence down). I used a Leo Vince HandMade 70TT exhaust for a 2007 zuma 50 2T. I upgraded the front wheel to 12" and a 230mm big brake kit. The transmission is using 11.5gr sliders, dr pulley face and polished ramps. Using a kevlar belt. I've got a hit clutch (45 degree) set up with 2500 springs and 800 pils. The contra spring is 1500. I've done quite a bit to the head gear as well... but that's another story. Just look for the other threads about it.
I'm still babying the scoot... it's a slow start (feels like a 125 at takeoff) but when it hits 25mph, it just takes off like a rocket. If you aren't balanced correctly, the front end does come up. The most I've pushed it is a little past 3/4 throttle... I'm trying to get the first grand on the miles so I can do a custom cdi. Right now it tops out at close to 62mph (reprogrammed speedo from KOSO). I'm hoping to push it passed 75mph if I've got all my tuning done right.
Right now, the RH50 is one of the fastest scooters when built up from stock... I'm finding it better than the Zuma.

Price wise, expect about 2-3 hours of labor from your local shop, so depends greatly on the labor rates. There will need to be some serious tuning with the carb to make sure everything is exactly where it needs to be, keep that in mind. Tuning can take a bit with a build they are not familiar with. Expect at least double the install time tbh.
You can kiss the warranty goodbye... even if all the work is done by a licensed tech. Personally, I really did not think twice... I know the Genuine builds are very solid, and the guys at the shops I spoke with have had really great luck with the 50 2T Minarelli setups. The engine is one of the most copied engines for a 50 2T.
If you get pulled over, make sure you are following the local license laws, otherwise yes you can get in trouble. Here in the state of MO, it's not required to be licensed if under 50cc... just can't go over 35. Check with your local state laws. If your running anything larger than 50cc, it really should be licensed. I have some good friends in local enforcement... and they know what a 50cc is capable of when they get tuned/modded.

I just got my Buddy 50 back from the shop with some new work. Leo Vince TT exhaust and a 70cc kit. Unfortunately it was raining pretty hard tonight so I didn't get to really test it out other than for a few blocks. I will say that the little bit I did get to ride it, it was like having a completely different scoot in a good way. I'll report back once I get it out for a while tomorrow.

No plans to upgrade the carb. I was essentially looking for an upgrade to give me fast acceleration and I got it. Most of my riding is in the city, a lot of stop/start so acceleration is the key. We did the 70cc kit, Leo Vince TT exhaust (which with the included bracket required no modification to mount onto the scooter), 6g sliders and a malossi boost bottle. I took it out today and never turned the throttle more than a quarter of a turn and could hit 30mph in a half a city block. So far I am very happy with the upgrades and not sure I see myself going any further.

A bone stock R50 should hit an honest 45 no problem. Before you start looking for a bigger cylinder you might want to look at maintenance / wear items. Post the same question a 4th time while you are at it.
