I will be taking ownership of my new Black Cat this weekend. I am very excited - I can't wait to ride! It sure looks like a lot of fun. I am somewhat nervous about hitting the roads but.......gotta live a little, right??

Welcome to our fun little corner!
I highly recommend you spend some time in a large, empty parking lot learning the feel of the bike and practicing quick stops from speeds beginning around 15 - 20 mph before you head out on the streets if you're not used to 2-wheeling it. Also, be sure to get yourself some protective gear.
I highly recommend you read the "Who's crashed?" in it's entirety, as well as the statistics thread garnered from it, in the General Forum. You stand to learn a great deal from other people's mistakes... including things you haven't thought of/experienced and an idea of what gear you might like to be wearing for your safety.
It was a limited production bike built off the Rattler50. It had knobby tires (like the roughhouse) and a bunch of BlackCat stickers etc. For some the bright yellow and BlackCat logos was too much visibility so it wasn't the hottest seller for them. Gas also wasn't $4/gal back then too! I always liked the Cat (I would pull most of the stickers off but leave the Yellow) and would've bought one but needed a faster scoot based on my commute. Welcome to the black-sheep corner of Genuine coffeebrown... we're lots of fun The Blur guys (all 12 of em ) are the kids that are away at college and of course the Buddies are the favorite kid. Stella, well they're still waiting on the paternity test to see where they fit in.
Q: Is full collision insurance recommended for a scooter or just liabilty? My insurer recommended that I only get liabilty. Any thoughts on that??
I just left the "who's crashed" forum and I may be a little more .....scared now than before. I think I will ride inlots practicing for a couple of weeks before I hit the road (although my commute is only 20 blocks or so).
How much will it cost you? Are you a homeowner? If it's cheap enough... why not get it? If you're a homeowner you can never have too much insurance. I got my scooter insurance through a group that specializes in M/C insurance. My normal (AllState) agent was nice enough to tell me AllState sucks at covering motorcycles and he would check other companies first...

With 3 kids and a mortage, I chose to spare no expense with insurance. I even paid an extra premium for coverage in case an uninsured vehicle hits me. Theft was another main concern. I chose to pass on collision. I wouldn't pay that extra premium unless I owned a $5000 Vespa.
Ok- that sounds like a good plan (as a parent with 2 kids and a mortgage).
Other than that, I can't wait to ride and modisfy my scooter. I'm hating the Black Cat logos and will definitely de-cat and paint it.
welcome and congrats. you should take the msf course asap. don't brake and turn hard together and avoid mashing the front brake by itself. use them both together. and when you're turning, look ahead at where you want to go, not at your front tire. ride safe and have fun.
Well, I am a proud owner of a New Black Cat. I just purchased it yesterday after battling with the more attractive prices of the Chinese brands. After looking and test driving the cheaper Chinese brands, it was Genuine Scooters that won my heart. I love the Black Cat, but like others I had to remove all the stickers on it
Now I need to figure how to de-restricted that bad boy
How easy was it to remove the cat stickers? Are you planning to paint it at all? Do you know what other parts/accessories are interchangeable with the Black Cat?
Have lots of fun with it!!! I can't wait to get mine tomorrow - unfortunately the weather is forecasted to bemostly raining this weekend. SO I'll probably have to wait til next week to get a good ride in.[/quote]

Actually the sticker removal process was easy. However, the stickers don't come off in one continuous pull, but rather in bits and pieces. If you get a good pull on the stickers...just take it really slow and it should come off in bigger chunks than smaller ones. My scooter was sitting in-house at the dealership the whole time so it was never exposed to the elements of outside, so there were no imprints left from the stickers. The only things you can't de-badge are the painted items, however you can probably paint over those if you desire. The whole process took about 30mins.
I'm not sure if I'm going to repaint the yellow and red panels as of yet, because of the visibility factors involved. It makes it really easy for others to see me. The yellow and red panels are going on me as it makes the scooter look funky and fun!
I just purchased my Black Cat about 2 weeks ago and immediately had the shop put the 70cc upgrade kit on her... she runs like a champ now... getting up to 50+ on flat roads...
I too took the stickers right off and put some of my own on there... I also painted the front fender red...
She rocks, i can't wait to get the exhaust and carb done...

OK...this probably sounds like a newbie question, but then again I am a newbie When you upgrade to the 70cc kit, does that mean you now have to register the scooter, get a driving license for it?
I cost me around 500 for everything... i would say that it helps more with getting off the line quicker and reaching that top speed of 45 - 55 on a flat road...
hey, I'm in Denver and am thinking about the 70cc upgrade - wanna meet up and show off? I could bring my camcorder and make a vid of the difference, may help other 50cc'ers.
heyh thanks ja i joined now i just need to get that buddy @_@ i wish i knew people that could help i have noone to help transport the scoot so i may need to go under the the cops eyes <<
