Just got a pipe for my Buddy 50. Not wild about the unfinshed look. Planning on getting it powder coated. Has anybody done this? Thoughts / results?

i dont know if powdercoating will hold up to exhaust heat.

powder coating is a "plastic" powder, that melts and smooths when heated in an oven.

i have some powder coated parts on my truck, and when i had to do some welding a few months back, i was at least 10 to 15 inches away from a powder coated part (but welding to a piece it was directly connected to.

the heat transfer from one part to the other, caused the powder coating to catch smolder. (similar to if you held a piece of plastic over a lighter, and melted it.

you need to get it ceramic coated. I have seen white and chrome. I had the pipe on my sled done. People ceramic coat the pipes to prevent rust and make it so you don't have to run a heat shield around the pipe. It will keep the pipe hotter, which is what you want in two strokes, not sure about 4.

There's a place in Tumwater that can Ceramic coat your pipe in a number of colors. In the Mottman Industrial Park. I'm sure the City of Destiny has somewhere that can do it too....

if you want to get by cheep get some heat resistance engine block paint or some smoker/grill paint. I think you can get it at automotive stores like Napa or Autozone.

Just got the pipe back from Performance Coatings. Ceramic coated, $60. It looks sooo much better.
I chose satin black. The stock pipe and eveything behind it are black. I could have done chrome for $20 more but my scooter has more of a clasic look. Chrome would have been to fancy for me. Plus I might paint the shocks and wheels black at some point.
