Upgrade! New panels & headset.

Post by polianarchy »

I've been wanting a black interior for years now, and the day has finally arrived. Pink & black & chrome all over...Pinky Tuscadero is now a true frankenscoot!

I also got the new post-2006 headset. I'm not sold on the attractiveness of the larger headset, but it's LOADS brighter. I work odd hours and often ride at night, and it makes a great difference.

Sharp! And fwiw, I like the shape of the new headset and I REALLY like the way the headlight looks. I'll probably like it even better when it's lit.

Looks awesome! Did you paint your rear shock too? And how do you like those NCY front forks?

Thanks!

Nope! That's the new shock I got back in December, same as when I got the new forks. I guess I forgot to post a review, eh? I LOVE THEM, one & all. That's the YSS adjustable shock. It's on the middle setting right now, and I love how bouncy and soft my ride is now. That, plus the SWEET-as-can-be NCY forks are making mincemeat of Philly's horrendous potholes. I've also noticed a marked improvement on nimbleness. That being said, the OG forks were pretty much done for.

Ya know, it's already grown on me. It could be the sheer amount of chrome. Ooo, shiny! And yeah, it seems twice as bright as the 2006 at night.

Have you tried the YSS shock on the other settings? Yes: review, please! :)

Love the scooter's new looks. That black interior really works!

I haven't gone through the effort of fiddling with it, as I'm really happy with the middle setting. It's nice & soft, so I can't imagine how bouncy it would be at its softest setting.

Thank you!

The mechanics at Philadelphia Scooters (LOVE THEM!) said that you get what you pay for with the upgrade shocks. I really didn't need an upgrade per se, just a new shock, which is why I went with the budget YSS. I was fine with the stock shock's performance, but I hope that this one will last longer than the Prima.

I have a question about the chrome headset - for anyone who has ridden with one.

Does the sun bounce off in really uncomfortable and distracting ways?
Yes, that's Ganesh painted on a scooter. No, it's not mine.

I got asked this back when I first got the chrome headset, but my answer has changed somewhat, now that I ride without a windshield. I've definitely noticed a dazzling reflection on the two days (out of the last ten or so) it's been Sunny In Philadelphia. However, I don't think it's bright enough to distract me, and I noticed the chrome bezel around the glass display is about as reflective as the all-chrome headset. And, if it's bright enough to be noticeable, I'm already wearing sunglasses anyway. So, YMMV.
