Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt 2010 Week 3: Long Street Names
April 11th – April 18th
Join in on the fun!
Note: if you haven’t joined the hunt yet, you can still jump in.
You do not have to go crazy with 20 point photos – If you want, feel free to go get the basic photo & post up. No one will give you a hard time here. We just want lots of people to play along – the fun part is seeing LOTS of scoots with the subject of the week.
Your Scooter in a photo with a long street name or names
Your scooter with any street sign (not a traffic sign, a sign showing the street name)
1pt for each letter of each street name on each sign (on same pole) visible in the pic (max 25 pts) Now for some rules…. Suffixes & cardinal directions do not count. South Main St. is 4 points (ST & South do not count) If it is an intersection of two or more streets and the street signs are on the SAME pole, both count. The intersection of Main St. & Johansen Ave = 12 points. Yes you can use a sign at an intersection with more than two streets, but we need to be able to read all the street names in the original photo.
+2 pts if you are in the photo
+1 pt for the first pic in this week
Questions? PM me
Photo must be posted by midnight in YOUR time zone on 4/18/10
PLEASE do your own math & include you point total with your submission!!!!
General Rules for every week:
-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s subject. (but if you get a better pic later in the week, POST IT with your new points - PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better pic and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous pic.
-Old photos you have lying around can NOT be used- they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo subject was posted
-No Photoshop submissions
-Prizes? Eric says YES! At the end of each month the person with the best point totals for the hunts run during that month will get a prize... but this is about bragging rights & all the fun we will have this summer… not just prizes so play along even if you don’t plan on winning
Prize for April: Modern Buddy Patch (priceless) + a Gen U Bin ($39.95

One other thing... you CAN use honorary street names but you only get to count the street once - this street in chicago is St. James Pl. but it's honorary name is Do not pass go, do not collect $200 Way. so you could count Do not pass go, do not collect $200 and Clark St., but not St James because it is the same street. (although that would be over the 25 point max.)

great pic & way to max out the points!
This is a perfect photo to start off the hunt - this is what we are looking for people!
Everyone: - just a FYI - I put a max of 25 points on the letters just to keep it fair in comparison with the first 2 hunts this month... I bet someone might find a couple streets with 40 letters & that would make the first two hunts kind of pointless, from a scoring point of view. Get my point?

Taking pictures of street signs doesn't really work at night :\

I feel like Wayne and Garth (or probably Beavis and Butt-head is better), but if you say

five times fast, it could end up on the double entendre thread.

does the North in North Carolina still count since it's part of the state name, or should I find something different?

how far is Lemont from Chicago? I flew into Midway and just before landing flew over a huge, I mean ginormous rock quarry. So big that there were bridges over it, it looked awesome to ride a scoot around if not for big trucks passing.

My wife at the corner of Old Spanish Trail & William C Harvin
+24 points.
I need a ruling: Does it have to be me in the photo to get the +2, or does my wife count? I won't take the points unless I have positive confirmation that she counts.

Lemont is 20 miles south west of Midway airport
There are lots of quarries around here & yeah... some are HUGE
Lemont was an old quarry town... back in the mid 1800s & early 1900s
Actually the Chicago Water Tower (one of the few buildings to survive the Chicago fire) is built from Lemont Limestone (wikipedia says Joliet limestone but its wrong)
Union Stockyard Gate in Chicago is also built of Lemont Limestone & so is the Old state capitol building in Springfield IL
and now back to the hunt

I hate to ding you for 2 points but..... the rules say
Your Scooter in a photo with a long street name or names
+2 pts if
you are in the photo
Now if the scooter is both of your's... you can always enter her & she will get the 2 extra points
Sorry

Heh, I knew something was off, but I was in a hurry... never been there and don't know anyone from there, so why should I know to spell it right?
(aside from it being spelled correctly in the picture)
No offense to any of you Massachussetts out there.

Did you know that 18 + 16 +2 = 27? Today it does.
I'm at the corner of
Brigido Valenzuela and
Fortunato Serrano in the Town of Guadalupe, AZ. I believe that gives me
27 for this week and
44 for the month of April.
Here's a link to the location, since the streets in
Guadalupe are not usually fully spelled out.

Rain, a bad back and a business trip got in my way last week. Now I'm a billion points behind. But I applaud the great shots last week and this.
Speaking of back - I AM. So here's my effort this week...
That's me in my fashionable ATGATT and Scootle, my faithful steed, is behind me. AS is a street sign for Massachusetts Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue. Remove the Avenues and you get 25 letters.
Total points - 25 for the signs, 2 for me = 27.
TOTAL FOR APRIL = 44

sorry but no
I really try not to add things or change the rules after a hunt starts
but... you will received the admiration of all of your fellow hunters for using the same intersection!

Wish I was a) playing and b) back home, which is not far from a certain "Tom, Dick, & Harry Alley"
Someone's got it on their blog...
Yeah, no intersecting sign so it really wouldn't be worth that many points anyway, but still fun!
