HELP: What is this cord coming out of my scooter?

Post by un_designer »

See picture attached... it's coming from the underside of the scooter, front wheel. Does anyone know what it is and where it needs to re-attach to? Thx.

Looks like your speedometer cable is busted. It's an easy fix. Just order a new one and replace it.

Thx for the quick ID and the link... I poked around there a bit and I think it's the item 6 in the diagram on this page:

I am not sure where it plugs in, though... any idea?

It screws onto the black meter gear assembly on the front wheel. #13 on http://www.scooterloungeonline.com/buddy125frontwheel

Yeah if you look around the fork you will likely see where it is supposed to go- the only real trick to it is the actual cable needs to fit just right up at the speedo (if I recall the top of the cable is squared off and needs to fit into the speedo the right way or you'll get nothing working). With some trial and error you ought to be able to get it back without needing to buy a part.

Good luck!

Yeah, if that much of the inner cable fell out and down on the ground, the cable's broken inside. It didn't just come loose from the wheel sensor.

Great News so far! I was able to reconnect the cable back to the front fork and just took the scooter out for a short ride. Everything seems to be working AFAICT... I'll continue to monitor this over the next few days and see. Thanks again for everyone's help!

That's good - it sounds, then, like the cable wasn't broken after all, but that somehow the square drive (speedo) end had slipped down inside the housing, giving you that big length of extra cable on the ground in your photo. Glad you were able to reconnect it all and that it still worked correctly! Good fix!

Nice! I had a similar problem when replacing the top of the headset- I never was really sure I had gotten the squared end seated correctly but it all started working and hasn't failed so I guess I did!

Glad you're up and running!
