Battery Trickle Charger

Post by dahuffy »

Having a bit of trouble getting my Buddy and my DH's Q-Link Legacy started this last week...and it was so pretty out too, darn it

Atomic Brown suggested a "Trickle Charger" for $30.00, does anybody know anything about these? I'll be putting the Pink Tink in on consignment soon, getting a Legacy like hubbie's so I can keep up with him!

Do a google search for 'Battery Tender Junior' and you'll find em. Just order wherever it's cheapest that looks trustworthy (or is close).

It's a must for your battery, and a lot cheaper than actually buying a new battery, so a wise investment

What you really want is a float charger (ie: Battery Tender Jr)
Will charge your battery until its fully charge.. Then float around if it needs charging up again :)

A trickle charger will keep charging up your battery until it blows up

(PSSSTTTTTTTTT get a Battery Tender Jr)

does batteries drain faster in the cold weather?
I keep having to recharge my battery using trickle charger, of course I do have a few more things running off the battery. I did not have any trouble until it got into the 20's.

Yes, batteries and cold weather tend to not mix very well.

Absolutely. Cold is a battery killer...

I keep my current scooter (Reflex 250) on it's Battery Tender Jr. constantly now whenever it's in my old (unheated) garage. I use permanently attached pigtail leads on the battery that allow me to connect-disconnect to the Tender very quickly. (These leads store neatly away under the scoot's seat when not in use).
And I used the same system (with a long extension cord) when I usta park a bike outdoors in the yard at a previous house, and rode it all winter long (in NJ!).

I also used this same system with all my previous motorcycles, and I intend to do it with my new Buddy too after I get it. Not only does this always keep your battery at a prime level (especially in the cold!), but it's claimed that it will extend the battery's life also..

I bought a version of a battery-tender at WalMart for just about twenty bucks. Used it on my Bajaj (known for weak electrics) for over a year with no ill effects. In fact, when the voltage regulator took a dump and I couldn't afford one for a month or so, I plugged it in every night and even went on a two day rally will no problems...of course I always kick-started it...

Bottom line; I highly recommend them.
