Blur Stator

Post by skip! »

After much toil on my bike to try to get it running right, I finally gave up and brought it to the shop. The mechanic rode it and said that it's the stator and that there is another Blur in there with the same problem. Anyone heard of this as a Blur thing or have the same problem?

Were you having starting problems? I have had a bit of that. I don't think the stator does a good job of charging the battery, and now that the battery is a year old, it's starting to cause problems.

Seems like stators are an issue with a lot of Motorcycles/scooters. Unless it's something like a KLR650, the electrical system is just there as an afterthought.

I might be wrong about this, but the stator shouldn't be a problem once you get the bike started. Any problems with the engine suddenly shutting tend to be a loose wire or short somewhere.

Mine's the other Blur in that shop! It feels like having a sick friend in the hospital. I took it in because it was having trouble starting (3-4 tries when cold) and would stall if I didn't rev it at stops. I checked the idle, throttle cable, and carb with no luck so I took it in to the pro's. I've read about stator problems in other posts on this site, so it seems somewhat common among Genuines. I have over 13000 BDUs racked up and this is the first problem I've had. I didn't know how much I'd miss this scoot until now.

BTW my bike is stock Skip, in case you were wondering.
