Brand New RH50...NO START!?!

Post by jwarfield »

So here it goes...I bought a Roughouse 50 on Wednesday, put about 10 miles on it, loaded it on a trailer with my wife's Buddy 50, drove to NC from MD and now it won't start. I double check the obvious stuff and it's got fuel in the tank and plenty of oil. I pull the spark plug and it looks OK, I grounded the electrode on the plug and hit the start button. It's got spark but no go, I know it's getting fuel cause I can smell it flooding when I try to start it I'm a little perplexed, I've never been a master of the 2 cycle engine but I can tear down jeeps and rebuild them from the ground up!

What am I missing? WTF??

I've been looking forward to this scooter and this vacation for three months, IT"S KILLING ME!!!

Welcome to NC... Ah sounds really messed up for ya... Dealer is best... But it sounds like your at least a Shade Tree Grease Monkey... Check the idle and Airmixture,,, Im guessing the later well be the problem... Hopefuly you know where to find the airmixture screw... turn the air mixture screw all the way to the right, slowly and DO NOT TIGHTEN then back out one turn,,, try to start for 3, to 5 sec. if it will not start try turning back out another 1/4 turn,,, if the airmixture is way off it should start after a max. of 3 full turns... Remember to make a mental mark of where the screw was at the start of this... count how many turns you turn to tighten. If it has not started by this time, i would leave the airmixture screw turned out 1 1/2 to 2 turns.

If this has not started the scoot check the plug to see how wet it is,,, if its not wet you have bigger problems like trash in the main jet. this can happen very easy being the hole is very small. At this point your best to take it to the dealer rather than braking down the carb to check to see if its clogged...

Check the airway make sure its clear someone might have left something in the airbox... Vaper lock is a problem with some of the scoots from genuine this is a whole mess you dont want to try and deal with if this is the case... when you overfill the gas tank somehow from what i understand gas gets into the canistor filter and has to be blown out or dryed out... (this is what i was told i have not had that problem and hope i never do)...

Once the bike is running and right you should be able to KICKSTART IT WITHIN 3 TRYS if not something is not right...

If you dont feel like you understand or not sure DONT DO IT.

Well, I got the beast started. It just took some time laying on the start button. It choked for a few min. but finally blew itself out and I was able to put another 20 miles on it!!!

The next time it happens try try holding the throttle 1/4 open and then hitting the starter.
