Manifold Crack

Post by ScootVet »

Cracked muffler manifold...3 weeks in the shop and still waiting for parts...urrrrgh! It appears at least that it will be warranty work. Thank you Genuine. No damage to the thing...it just split. Cruising down the road and suddenly sounded like an air leak on a jack hammer. Told em to throw on some Dr Pulley 11 gram sliders while its there. I'll just sit and wait impatiently as I watch the cool autumn riding weather go by. :x

That's very odd. The metal on the stock exhaust is pretty thick... I'm guessing it was the weld on the manifold that failed?

If the shop is having problems getting a replacement in, you could see if one of the guys who've put the Prima exhaust on if they want to sell their old stock exhaust. Alternately, there might be someone who has a Prima exhaust for sale. (Perhaps even me...)

This might not even be a concern if they can get the parts in a timely fashion, but man, this is the worst time of year for something like that. The weather's getting closer and closer to perfect. Here's to a speedy repair!

Hah, wow... you freaked me out. I read the post and was going to respond to it but stepped away. Then I came back later, clicked on what I thought was your other post to see that I had responded... which I don't remember doing. Then I saw the date! You broke my brain!

If yours is still under warranty, you should be able to get a replacement unless you've done something bonkers with it. If not, you can either order a replacement stock exhaust or look for an aftermarket solution. I listed my Prima exhaust a while back, if you had any interest in that route.

Could you be more clear what you mean by the manifold. My 06 Blur had a crack in the pipe that leads from the engine to the muffler that lead to a complete separation.

The dealer was able to weld it together and it works fine now with some machining to the gasket a bit.

I still do not know why the pipe separated.

on my blur

Post by rev_sole »

My pipe was broke about half inch below the motor.
from what i could see it looked to be completely separated all the way around.
i am not sure if it was the weld or not? i should be hearing back from my dealer soon.

if you look at the part in link it was #11 that broke. just below the mount.
I wish i had taken pictures before i took it in.

That is exactly the same position mine failed at. I thought I might have it going off a curb. That still might be true. Could that have happened to you.

I am still waiting to here from anyone about the part.

curb? no i don't think so.
That seems unlikely being that the hole motor and rear is a swing arm thereshould be no movement in the exhaust at all.
I dropped my blur once and that was not on the exhaust side,so that would not have don anything to weaken it.

I have not heard any thing from my dealer yet but plan on pestering them
this week, just to see whats happening.

My guess though is that the bending during the making of the part could have
weakened it and if the wielder did not do a great job it would have added to the failure of the part.
I know wen i looked at mine I thought the pipe did not look like the bends
where done all that smoothly.
But i am not an expert.
I just watch a lot of TV.
