Motorcycle Airco & heating system - HOLY CRAP!

Post by mjm1374 »

I saw this on the intertubes this morning and all I could think is that this is brilliant:

That would so easily fit on a scooter. The big questions is would you ride with one?

I wonder how taxing that is on the electrical system? Pretty cool though.

I want one - the V-Strom that is.

Yeah, I'm not sure most scooters would handle the load. I'd like to see some specs before I bought.

What I'd really like to see are products for bikes that run off of solar energy. The top of a saddlebag or topcase will take a lot of photo cells, certainly enough to power a cell phone or any USB device.

Did you see the hybrid chopper episode of American Chopper last week? They installed the batteries in saddlebags. You could pack batteries in a saddlebag like that and run a unit like the OP discussed for hours. Just plug in the batteries when you get back to home base. It would be kind of like an APU on an aircraft. You might even be able to use engine power to charge up the batteries while on the go.

Hopefully there's a quick disconnect, otherwise you'd have to get used to showering with your scoot, paying for an extra seat on airplanes, and upgrading to a California King mattress.

Not one positive comment after the article. Its big, ugly and awkward. But so was the first mobile phone. cool idea. Maybe motorcycles are just one idea. Could help anyone who works in extreme heat or cold. As technology brings the unit size down and a portable power source stronger I could see interest grow. But I wouldnt be caught dead tethered to a machine like that. Power drain, weight, looks and taking up and extra space I have isn't a good substitute for good weather preparation.
no i don't ride a scooter, i am a scooter pilot!

Is there really such a high demand for something like this?

Heating, maybe, but heated gear seems much more practical.

You could accomplish just as much (especially with cooling) by pumping a bit of chilled air into a helmet. As for heating, my torso never gets cold, it's my fingers and toes. Still need heated gear for that.

I don't want to knock innovation. I'm sure some people would find it useful.

Reminds me of a camping trip where I saw some guys that had a window unit air conditioner hooked up to the access panel of their tent. Effing ridiculous.

can't really see myself wanting one but I know some folks like my dad get more sensitive to heat as they get older so I don't want to knock it. Who knows maybe when I'm 80 I'll want one of these tucked nicely away in my topcase and everyone will think its my life support system :)

It defeats the purpose of getting out of your cage. Also some well placed ice packs could probably have the same effect with a lot less bulk.
