Need help on mechanical problem
I bought my new buddy last week. I found that sometime there are some liquid (I guess oil) on the ground under my buddy. I am not sure if that is normal. Did anyone has this experience?

Not normal. There's been one instance of leaky gas that I recall—none of oil leaks.Tamago wrote:I bought my new buddy last week. I found that sometime there are some liquid (I guess oil) on the ground under my buddy. I am not sure if that is normal. Did anyone has this experience?
Could be a lot of reasons for this, but it should be taken care of. You may want to check your engine oil level to be sure it hasn't lost a significant amount of oil. Knowing where the oil's dripping from will help a lot. If it's convenient to take it in to the dealer that may be the easiest fix.

i hadn't had a problem until i took sophie in for her maintenance and then not even right after. <shrug> anyway, the other day i noticed some drippage in my garage and then again where she was parked at work. i rode her over to the dealer and the mechanic put on a new 'o' ring, thinking that was the problem. the service manager told me to keep an eye on it.
the next morning, yesterday, there was no oil in my garage, i rode to work and checked later, sure enough, there was oil drippage again. i ran my finger along the bottom of the casing and it appeared the oil was coming from the seal. so back to the dealer i went, where sophie spent the night.
service manager said he'd never had a buddy brought back for an oil leak and that they were going to take that area apart, dry it out and do the powder test to see exactly where the leak was originating. it will definitely be a warranty issue.
so now i'm waiting to give them a call to see what they may have detected. obviously, i'm hoping its nothing major. so please everyone, keep your fingers crossed cuz i'd sure hate to have to be without sophie for an extended period of time.
as soon as i find out what the issue is, i'll post it for others who may face the same situation.

well, originally they thought it was from the 'o' ring and replaced it. but when it continued, they were unsure cuz even a drop of oil blown by the wind from riding the scooter will spread. hence, the powder test.rajron wrote:My fingers are crossed hoping that it’s a small and easy to fix item. I’m a little confused, where is the oil coming from?
sorry, i don't know exactly how to explain the spot other than to say that its
where they take the metal casing off to put on the 'o' ring. there is a seam on the casing and oil was all along that seam.
they weren't able to get to her today, so now it will be tuesday til they can take a look at the problem; they're closed sunday and monday.
i wish tamago (original poster of this thread) had reposted with what had caused his oil leak. just for pure curiosity, to see if we both have the same issue.
so, hopefully it will be something easy and i'll get sophie back tuesday. i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

UPDATE: well, its been since june 8th and i still don't have my buddy back. seems the part needed was listed on the genuine order place as 'in stock'; however, after a week i asked my service mgr. to contact genuine and see where in the delivery process the part was. so it seems the part wasn't actually 'in stock'. after a couple calls, my service mgr. managed to find out that genuine is expecting a parts shipment to arrive around the end of the month! i asked if they were even sure if the part sophie needs is on that slow boat from taiwan and he said 'no'. he's calling again next week to try to get some more info out of them. this is not good news. this is no big part, its a damned seal for an oil leak! in the meantime, i've missed out on a number of rides and the pride parade ride.

If its just an oil seal, you may be able to get one from another source. Ask the service manager for the size of the seal. just search for it by size online (example 15x25.5x7). I got a crankshaft seal for a Genuine Black Cat from the local Honda dealer. It happened to be the same one used on many older Honda 50cc scooters.
