RH Almost Scootjacked!

Post by echondrite »

Be carful out there guys!

I was waiting at a red light in Baltimore when suddenly, from behind, I felt 2 hands grab my shoulders and try to pull me backwards. I gunned it and broke free thanks to the 70cc BB kit 26mm kehin carb and prima exhaust I had enough power!

I saw 2 gangsta - looking guys as I looked over my shoulder while gunning it.

Anyone have any ideas for counter scootjacking devices?

Yeah, but some members of this Board can't quite come to terms with it

I've had similar issues albeit not nearly as physical, just walking twoard the scooter making threats. I've actually thought about mounting a can of bear mace on the scooter someplace for just this sort of thing although I'd have to hide it fairly well since carrying bear mace is illeagal here in michigan.

Depending on where you live, its just another accessory.

Mace is a good idea but it needs to be at the ready pretty quick. And if you wear a ff, you could head butt with it. Maybe a good reason to purchase gloves with plastic knuckle protection.

I'm making it sound like I'm Mr tough guy. I reasonably sure I would pee my pants if someone came up behind me and tried to Yank me off.

You can always get a carry&conceal, or just open carry. Hooray for the Second Amendment!

After reading all the ideas, I am thinking of making helmet mounted mace shooter. Could be awesome!....especially if I replaced the mace with oven cleaner....haha

"The Flame Blaster consists of a small, 3-liter container of petroleum gas, which is typically mounted in the trunk of the vehicle, and nozzles fitted under the front doors of the vehicle. The electronic ignition system of the Flame Buster is activated by pushing a button (located near the foot pedals), resulting in three-meter long jets of burning liquid petroleum being thrown from both sides of the vehicle. The Blaster can be used five times before the gasoline tank needs to be refilled. The intensity of the blast can be set to individual' motorists' preference and the flames have been shown to cause no paint or other damage to the car. The system is not intended to kill assailants but rather to distract them and afford motorists the chance to escape a potentially life-threatening situation. The biggest drawback of the Flame Blaster is its high risk of injuring innocent passersby. Still, the device is completely legal when used for purposes of self-defense."
Of course this is for a car but could be adapted to a scooter.

The best way to deal with potential scootjacking IMO is to have comprehensive insurance, so you can happily wave as they drive off with your scooter. ;)

Trying to fight people off is, in my opinion, not a good idea. I give myself more than even odds in a street fight with just about anyone from my fight training, but that same training makes it clear that violence is uncontrollable outside a sporting event.

I'd much rather lose a scooter than an eye!

Screwdriver in the cup holder FTW. Has thwarted several incidents so far.

As a girl who rides to work before dawn, I realized I should have some sort of plan to fend off the "desert people" (as I affectionately call the phoenicians who wander the streets). I thought about Mase or pepper spray but I could see myself fumbling with it and it serving no purpose. What I wound up getting was an "Urban Pal" knife that hangs on my key ring. I know realistically my best bet is to wave my scooter goodbye, but it makes me feel comfortable that I have something that someone might see and just decide its not worth the risk.

I also practice vigilance when I am stopped at an intersection. I don't want anyone to have the opportunity to get that jump on me with out me seeing them coming.

Nice first post sucka! Welcome to modernbuddy. Yea I think use of the word pull instead of yank would have worked. But if someone pulled me off my scoot I would beat the shizz out of them. If they yanked me off I would be on the ground watching some s.o.b. drive off on my ride. (still sounds bad but you get the idea)

Thanks for having a good sense of humor about my wisecrack.

I'm a recent purchaser of a new 2009 black Stella and have been having fun modifying that (rear rack, Sito+ pipe, rejetted carb, P200 air filter, Piaggio seat [on order], GGR Hot Reeds [also on order], polished Vespa PX kickstarter lever, etc.)

I'm thinking of getting a Roughhouse R50 as something I can knock around on on dirt roads and tame trails. Also as something I can let friends ride (the ones who are coordinated and trustworthy).

A remote kill switch would be pretty cool. Someone yanks you off and tries to ride away, you activate the kill switch with your phone and the scooter stops in its tracks. Cue the cops or the angry owner. Is there an app for that? :P
