The real range of the Stella 4T

THIS time I rode an extra 32 miles in mixed city/county traffic.
No faster that 45 mph
Thats when the bike told me that the tank was MT.
Coasted into a station & filled it to the top.
It took 1.1 gallons.
good luck
So I tested the real maximum range of my 4T.
I had it on reserve for a while, this morning while on reserve she started to chug and stall.
i.e. she was out of gas.
Barely made it to the gas station. Looked in the tank, there was still 'some' sloshing around in the bottom but I guess the fuel line does not use the full capacity of the tank.

To fill up to the brim it took 1.08 gallons. Total distance to empty was 100 miles on the dot.
mpg = 92.6

I'm not sure where the claimed 1.4 gallon capacity in the owner's manual comes from, cuz it's bogus.

My mpg was a bit on the low side (if 93mpg can be considered low!) because this was exclusively stop and go city riding in LA. Basically the worst kind for mpg.

Anyway, from now on I'll fill up at 80 miles. No big deal.

p.s. I don't think the fuel gauge is actually too inaccurate. It seems that way because for some reason the red range on it is so big. If you judge it against the total swept area you will get a much more accurate indication of fuel left. The red area starts at basically 1/4 tank left!

Thanks! That's good to know, and it confirms my suspicions from eyeballing inside the tank.

No problem! Thanks to jimmbomb for first reporting his findings.

Yeah desmolicious.... when I emptied my tank, I could see just a bit sloshing around in there..The bottom of the tank is not flat.
& got just as much gas back in there as you did...
I agree with you man, that this is not a 1.4 gal tank.
UNLESS.. there is .3 hiding out of sight and below the reserve inlet tube....
That's .3 that we CANNOT use... unless we turn the scoot up-side-down!!

Were you guys filling it clear to the filler hole, or just to the top of the chassis (not the black "extension" to the tank)?

Yup, all the way to the top.
I can do that w/o worrying about stalling out since I disconnected the EVAP and am using the vented gas cap from the Stella 2T.

Bottom line, this is a 1.1 gallon gas tank.

Bottom line...the gas gauge isn't worth a damn. Use your odometer and refill every 75 miles. AND, carry a filled fuel bottle!

The point is not about the fuel gauge, but the 'real' size of the gas tank.

:o! Thank you! I have been finding that to be true also! it appears to be as far as it goes right to as far as it goes left.
