I hesitated answering, because I haven't been here long, and most of you do not know me, but I am a contract killer.

No, seriously -- I have been looking for a steady paycheck for 37 months, and picking up a web design or video editing gig here and there, and working a few hours at the local scooter shop to not quite make ends meet.

So, a family member recently bequeathed me $4000. With that, I paid some back rent, and started the steps to begin a courier service using my scooter. I've started slow, as I only have one other unemployed friend with a scooter, and I really did not want demand to outstrip supply. It seems since I have been trying to get the courier gig off the ground, the scooter shop has needed me more than ever... and I do depend on them being there for me when I need it, as well. So, this has caused the launch of the courier business to go much slower than I would have expected.

However (and this is the part I hesitate to mention, as it will sound completely spammy, but I promise you, it is sincere), I also took part of that $4K and invested in an electronic cigarette system, as I really wanted to break my $6.50/day nasty, unhealthful habit. It has worked incredibly well (I have not had a cigarette in 20 days), and fortunately, I was approved to become an affiliate of this company.

If you or someone you care about smokes, and would like to explore a potential product that can save both money and health, I would appreciate any and all referrals to tinyurl.com/nosmokeTN. The company is owned by James Cameron's brother, and the product is very high quality, offering 30-day money back guarantee, free shipping in the U.S. and lifetime warranty on all non-consumable components.

If I could help people stop smoking, that might be the best job I have ever had, regardless of what it pays... and it sure beats being blacklisted in one's industry for refusing to help notable crooks steal from other companies and taxpayers, I assure you!

Full time retired since 2004. Been working full time since I was 13 so at the age of 47 decided it was time to reflect. :D

What I did do was sweep factories at at 12 to 16.
At age 15-17 work in a loading dock loading simi-tractor trailers with cases of paint.
At age 17 graduated from high school early and joined the Navy and and became a weapon specialist (hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, & electricity) for 8 years earning the rank of E6 and then Joined the Coast Guard doing a host of different jobs from ship combat training, emergency diver, anti-terrorist force protection, so much I cant list it all and visited more then a dozen countries repeatedly. I retired from the Coast Guard as Chief Warrant Gunner 4 in 2004 at the age of 47. I can honestly say that I have been blessed as God has directed my path and have experienced more then most people do in 2 life times, so if I die tomorrow I Ok with that although Im still having fun. :D

Sure, the folks with the snazzy Cupertino address get all the attention, while nobody cares about a lowly retail Specialist, Part-Time (retired). The only job I've ever regretted quitting. (Staffing hours were getting trimmed to the minimum due to economic freefall at the time, but I needed full-time work and got a job offer elsewhere.)

Ha, yes they do! I'd work for them, but they keep rejecting my applications to work full-time wiping the sweat off Jonathan Ive's brow. "Sorry, he never sweats."

Own stock? Apple stock surpassed $400 today, making them the world's second highest valued company, behind Exxon. Apple's market value is more than Intel and Microsoft combined. That's what I get for not buying a ton during the Scully years.

One thing I love about riding my scooter... not being able to use my iPhone at the same time. It's an awesome disconnect for me!

And we're just getting started... the iPad is barely a year old. :-)

Which reminds me... it would be cool to have a mount on the scooter for my iPhone to act as a GPS. Time to search the board for ideas…

Have a look at http://www.ram-mount.com/ . They seem to make the best stuff. There are a few out there, though, including some cheaper imitations on eBay.

The quality of the Whataburger is entirely dependent on the location. One will be great, the next will be sketchy (at best). YM totally MV.

I miss Taco Cabana more.

What do you for Work?

Post by theflash784 »

I worked for a local police dept for 31 years before retiring. I starting in dispatch, went into the parking enforcement/aban auto and then finished up in animal control. Now I help to look after my three grandchildren. I am looking forward to the time when they will be in school and I will have some time to myself so I can ride my scooter more. I would love to write some sceince fiction novels one of these days.

Start tonight. :)

Brainstorm several ideas, and pick one. (Probably best to start with a short story instead of a novel, but that's your call.) List the main characters with a brief description of each, then write a one-page synopsis of the story.

Tomorrow, re-read that, make adjustments if necessary, and start writing. Resume writing the next day. Lather, rinse, repeat.

There's a simple difference between wanting to write a novel someday, and writing a novel. A writer writes. Ya gotta make time for it, every day. It doesn't have to be a lot of time every day, but you have to do it, and you have to make it a habit. I speak from experience: for years I wanted to make comics. Too many years. Not any more. I'm producing a graphic novel. It's going to be years before I have anything I can show for it (you think writing a scene takes a lot of time, try drawing it all), but I'm Doing The Work. If you want to write a science fiction novel, that's what you need to do: start writing (that's the hard part), then keep writing (that's the even harder part).

I'm a tech geek (or so my son says).

I design and install automation systems for peoples houses. I integrate audio, video, lighting, security and environmental controls together and put them on the TV. They control the whole house with a remote control. Kinda Jetson'esque.

I also do screening rooms for the movie dudes in Hollywood. Not very nice people to work for but it pays the bills.

But but but,,,,,I'm toying with the idea of opening a mobile CO-OP. Yes yes, I'll deliver your "medicine" right to your door!!! Now I just need a 1967 split window VW panel bus as my delivery mobile and I'm set!

Comics was my dream for a while, but it requires a lot of discipline. Drawing requires a lot of practice, and though I get better when I practice, but I don't keep at it. A lot of people seem to think that if you "can draw," everything just kind of comes out a certain way, fully formed. If it sucks, it's because you can draw, just not so well. If it's good, it's because you can draw better. But, no, like music, it requires practice.

Writing may be even tougher. Among my primary group of friends (most professional writers or editors), there are four of us who have not written published books, novels, comics or some combination. Among those, only one is now a full-time novelist. He spent several years without a full-time job, doing almost nothing but writing and pitching, writing and pitching, writing and writing some more.

I miss Mel Tillis. Whataburger, not so much! In high school it was the place to go late at night (not much open to minors in Ft. Worth after midnight back then) and inevitably get in trouble, almost get in a fight, etc. Also, flat burgers!

Oh man I love Ninfa's. Amazing food...
And whataburger is great. I love their breakfast.

Anyway, I'm a Research Assistant at the University of Texas Medical School. I work in the Cancer research area. It's fun and rewarding work.

I work in curriculum and administration at one of the medical schools in Houston. I'm new to the world of scooting and, trust me, it's the only way to go in dealing with traffic and parking in the Texas Medical Center. Only wish I had discovered it sooner!

was a morning host for an internet video/ radio company in San Diego until they laid everyone off to focus on mobile app development.

Back in Nashville, I have an interview for an SEO position tomorrow.

I work for a small, locally-owned "Books, Gifts, Toys, and Novelties" store, and attend college full time for a Graphic Design and Business Admin/Marketing double major.

Good luck to ya. I've been looking for something stable here since 2008.

I'm a maintenance electrician in a loud, dirty, smelly forge plant. It's all about hydraulic presses, mechanical presses, and all the equipment it takes to make them run. It's not as bad as it sounds though.

The range of equipment we have goes from the latest and greatest techie stuff all the way back to 60's technology. We still have some CNC machines whose controls still use tubes.
