New Starter Install questions

Post by Chilly »

Going to order a NCY GY6 Replacement Starter Motor(other recommendations welcome) next week. Looks like I need to remove the intake hose just above it. Is this and the removal/installation of the starter basic? Anything I need to watch out for? Anyone have pictures/videos of the process. Just successfully replaced my belt/sliders/sparkplug so feeling confident.

Just make sure you disconnect the battery FIRST...

Apply a VERY small amount of vasoline on the starter teeth, old mechanics trick to help ease the possibility of gear binding.

always start with the simple, it may end up costing you little to nothing

Anymore tips? What do I need to remove first? The intake hose above the starter? The entire air box unit? How to get at that 2nd bolt behind the air box? To actually remove starter just the 2 8mm hex bolts and power cable? Have a NCY replacement starter on the way, installing next Saturday.

EDIT: looks like removing the whole air intake box and hoses is the way.

I'm getting ready to replace mine as well. Did you hit any snags? Any tips?
