Post by Edwub »

I couldn't resist. It comes in white, and I think it might look really neat on my rear fender (black) just above my license plate.

Image

If you recognize it, you might ask "why not gold?!" but I thought gold might stick out too much, while white would look snazzy and subtle against mywhite Blur. Pretty excited for it to come :)

It'll be me stepping out of my shell and customizing my scoot! heheh

Hell yeah, Ed! *trans-continental high-five*

On my last car, the one that died and spurred my decision to get my 170i, I had a yellow chocobo and a pink moogle on the right and left passenger windows, and in the back window I had a green mushroom, a yellow triforce, and a silver Nintendo logo. I got them all at conventions, at a booth that did video game and anime vinyl decals of all sorts, and I got compliments on them somewhat frequently.

Gold would've looked good, but so does the white. I likes it!!! Where'd you get it?

Thats awesome man! I always thought the Hylian crest looked cool.

I have a "Zombie Outbreak Response Vehicle" sticker on the hatch window of my wagon, I'm probably going to make a smaller one to put on the scoot soon too. Oh, and a simple clip art silhouette alligator! :)

I will say, I cannot totally recommend the seller that I linked to though, he has some real funny (some borderline offensive, for those faint of heart) decals on there, but he seems to be VERY unorganized, and an a-hole at that. He processed the payment right away, but didn't send anything until 2.5-months after we had ordered it, and he sent the wrong stuff. We had e-mailed him, and contacted PayPal several times regarding the "sale" too, and he was generally very rude. I just use this site for ideas to make my own decals for my own vehicles now.[/url]

Where the hell did you get that? and why is it black on white instead of white on black, like in the show? I had to make mine.

Well... I cleaned the area and made sure it was 100% dry before putting this sucker on... it's peeling off slowly but surely. I even heated it up with my hair dryer when I re-stuck the edge that was starting to peel- no luck.
I guess I'll order another one and try again.

Try cleaning the area wiping it with rubbing alcohol let the area dry before applying. That may help keep it stuck.

That's actually exactly what I did, thanks though.

The only other thing I can think of would be to lightly sand the area before applying the sticker-- and I'm not going to do that.
I'll get another sticker and try again on a flatter part of the scoot, using the hair dryer from the start. Hopefully that will work, if not, it just wasn't meant to be!

First I used Goo Gone on a rag, then rinsed and scrubbed with water, then alcohol, let dry, then sticker. Sticker peeled a little after the first couple of hours, then hair dryer.

I'm pretty sure what I'm doing should work... as it has worked for me putting new stripes and other vinyl on with no peeling. I just think because where I put the sticker wasn't a totally flat surface and the manner of the sticker, which is more rigid than most because of the metallic background, is why it wasn't sticking well.

I just got a new modular helmet. It is sort of a pearlized wine, but pretty boring. Is there a thread for decal sources? Anyone have experience making their own?

Try looking at ETSY.com Look for Noggin Rockers. There are a number of decals you can order for a helmet. Maybe something there will interest you. If you do a saearch for scooters there are other products too

I actually resist putting decals on my autos. My wife LOVES to cover any car she has in tons of stickers, band decals and the like. I personally think it makes the car a bit juvenile... that and everyone at work knows I'm driving my wife's car by the sticker choices  Besides, currently the only bumper stickers I get are from audio gear companies. Not the most thrilling stuff. I did have an eye when I had the P200e ever-so-briefly at a tasteful aluma-sticker (like the firefly decal) that read "Insured by Smith and Wesson" with the actual factory logo. I figured that would look tasteful on the scooter, but I ended up selling both that bike and my J-frame revolver  Couldn't afford to repair and feed both.

I don't put stickers on my car much either.
I have two on the car, well on windows anyway: The noticeable one is just a thin box with letters that says "Zombie Outbreak Response Vehicle" and it is in the middle of the very top of the hatch window, just under my third brake light. It's not super gaudy, and I get so many people stopped behind me at lights taking pictures of it with their cell phones. I'm pretty surprised it's held up perfectly though, because it gets sprayed with washer fluid, and scraped by the beam blade wiper, a ton. The other one is black (on the tinted side window) and says "GolfmkV.net" which is my bf's DIY site.
I have a crap ton of other stickers from the parts/racing companies that I get my upgraded VW parts from-- most of them end up on the press, or the work bench. I'm not like some of the ricer lame-os out here that have to cover their cars in parts brand stickers to show off how "modded" their car is though (for most- I think they just buy the stickers and don't actually have any of the parts, or if they do it's something stupid that doesn't really effect performance anyway). Plus, the stuff that goes into my car is generally pretty impressive- from companies that cater only to german vehicles (and Saab)-- none of the honda or subaru guys would know what they are anyway.
I make a point to keep my wagon at it's current "sleeper status," because I don't need stickers to show off how big my car's nuts are, and because it would look overdone and stupid-- I like to keep it clean and sleek-- at least as sleek as a station wagon can look ;)
(what "sleeper status" means for those who don't know, is this car looks like a soccer mom mobile-- but it's really horrifically fast)

As for the scooter, I actually took the new stripes off a couple days ago. They looked too goofy and cluttered for my taste. I took the "Serenity" decal that I made off too. I don't think I'm going to put anything back on there any time soon. With the side panels painted it looks better without anything on the front cover.
The firefly sticker is going-- I'll try again for another one, but it's in a fairly unnoticeable spot anyway.
I'm going to focus more on some snazzy mods as opposed to stickers and stripes. Like a new side mount LED license plate bracket... I finally get to lose that annoying mudflap thing!

EDIT: I do have a bunch of stickers from different gun and gun parts companies-- those are for my gun case, because it's a really ugly gun case :P I WAS thinking however of putting the "CAUTION STAY 100 METERS BACK OR YOU WILL BE SHOT" one on the back part of the rear rack-- but I think it might get me in trouble, especially if I am ever pulled over :?

I never put stickers or decals on anything I owned, mostly because it felt so final. I used to have a hard time finishing videogames, mostly because I didn't want the experience to "end." In regards to decorations, as soon as I put one on I can't put others on. The "multiple possibilities" are removed.

Weird quirk.

So this was pretty crazy for me :) I think it's not too flashy in person, and being white it matches the scooter well. It's placement was also ideal: I know one of the more common Blur mods is altering that rear, since it was so much boring black plastic right there.

The triforce triangle is positioned almost perfectly over an imprint of a triangle; I always wondered whether they meant to add a hazard sticker there. I'm entertaining the idea of removing *just* the triangle and replacing it with a reflective version, for a bit more visibility. But I'm worried it might look odd.

Edwub, I think it looks great where and how it is.
Plus you already have a big red rectangular reflector right underneath it for visibility.

I've never put stickers on the body panels of anything (until the scoot), especially my cars, because it can really damage the paint after being there for a long time. That's why the ones on my car are ONLY on the glass, where they can be easily removed/scraped off without permanently damaging anything.

...or even a short time, as I discovered once I removed my sugar skull decal.
Image
Image
The bf fixed it with an electric car buffer/polisher and a dab of some super 'spensive polishing cream. Now you can't see the discoloration and my front cover is once again super shiny.
