Chrome or body color step plates?

Post by KevinD »

Recently purchased a '09 150 Pamplona. Replaced the rear grab rails with a chrome rear rack. I hate the look of the silver step plates - but have only seen black otherwise (Psycho / Black Jack). I don't think Krylon Fusion paint will last all that long. Does anyone make Chrome (plastic) or Body Color step plates? Pamplona Red would be ideal.

Great question as I have been wondering the same thing. I have all chrome racks now and the dull drab step plates look out of place.

I emailed Genuine and Andy got right back to me. Here is what he said so fingers crossed!

I am passing your suggestion and contact info along to Scooterworks USA, as this is more of an aftermarket thing. They are the ones that originally carried the chrome headset and fender for the Buddy.

Some members have spray painted them.

A couple have sprayed them with truck bed liner/coating stuff. Whatever that's actually called. Pretty durable!

Powder coating is extremely durable and is available in a wide range of colors. The only catch is that your local powder coating shop probably has a minimum job price, which means that you would need to include some other pieces in the same job to get a reasonable price. (now if you wanted to powder coat your rims at the same time  )

went ahead and reached out to the guys at Scooterworks. Adam replied that they have a new product meeting next week - so he will bring up the idea then and let me know if it goes anywhere.

Can plastic be powdercoated? I thought it was a process only for metals because of the electrostatic application.

mine are away getting cerakoted. . . apparently there is an air dry method. Went with black though as I wasn't sure I could match the blue very well. I'll post pics and give a toughness report when they are back home!

Someone here years ago made their own out of diamond plate. I'll see if I can find it.

You can vacuum metalize plastic for sure. Think of chrome plastic headlights for toy cars or the mirror finish light cone in flashlights or the chrome like grid that diffuses drop ceiling lights in offices. I know a place in Churchville NY used to do it but I have no idea if they still do or not. It was wicked expensive.
