Seat Option

OK.. This is my first post to the forum and I apologize if it has been addressed, I have tried searching with no luck.

I am buying a Psycho tomorrow and have the option of the low profile 2 seater seat or trading it up for the standard 2 seater seat. I am 5'11" and have sat on both but cannot decide which is better. There is nothing like riding one for miles vs just sitting on it. So I was wanting to get some opinions from people that have the psycho seat and the normal seat. My wife will ride with me but that would be on a very rare occasion, but she is 5'3" at 105 lbs so I don't think that will matter much between the 2.

I recently changed to the low profile seat and I love it. That being said, I am only 4'10", so of course I love it! At your height, and given that you want to take your wife on the back sometimes, I think the regular seat would be better. The higher part of the low profile seat is pretty small and, especially if you add a topcase, your wife might have trouble positioning herself on it.

You could keep the low profile and then we could trade. I have the reg buddy 125 seat. My scoot is new, purchased in feb... Seat is in perfect condition. I can even mail it out tomorrow priority mail so you would have it soon. You could use the same box to send the other back in and i will even buy and then email you the label to slap on the box... Easy peasey.,

I think because of your height you would feel more comfortable with the larger seat. I will even throw in a pizza and a few beers
Those low profile, seats are not the easiest to find... Let me know if that interests you at all.

Well if you think you might need 'em both.....get 'em both. You can get a Low Profile from Genuine for $100 but it won't say Psycho. It says PGO.

You can get a regular or BJ seat for around the same price just about anytime. So if you THINK you may want the Low Pro in the future hang onto it now.

So far as myself I have access to both a BJ seat and low pro. The BJ seat is fine for my 32in inseam. The low pro? Forget about it! It's so inappropriate for me I truly do feel cramped and "bear on a tricycle" like riding on it.

All these seats can be swapped out in around a minute flat, btw. Very, very easy.

I think you could easily change the standard nuts out for wingnuts and make it a completely tool-free operation. This would work well if you had two riders needing different seats.

I have a psycho and the seat was not a good match for me at 6' tall. The dealer traded it out for a solo seat and it is a much better match. I used a regular stock seat while waiting for the solo seat to arrive and it also was better than the low profile seat. Unfortunately neither of them look as bad-ass as the low pro seat......

Hi everyone! I just bought a 2009 Pamplona 150 and I was curious if it would fit my Buddy. Scooterwork's site filter removes the seat when I enter that I have a Buddy International 150. For those of you who one the seat, how much would you say the seat lowered the height by? Right now I can almost flatfoot one side but I'm all the way at the front of the seat's edge and my chest is practically up against the column. I would be happy to just comfortably flatfoot one side with a little bit of knee bending room or be able to have both the ball of my feet on the ground. Oh and not polish my scooter with my shirt. ;p

I have a low profile seat on order from Scooterworks. It is currently out of stock so I am waiting. I am about 5'2" and I can tell the difference even when I wear different footwear. My Harley's give me a much needed couple of inches in height. The Shifts are much better in the summer but I tiptoe at the stops when I have them on. I think low profile seat will be ideal for me. I'll be able to get footwear I like vs. bulky boots I have to wear now for more stability

Thanks for the reply Storm. I am the same height as pdxrita. When I wear my Icon Boots versus my tennis shoes I can definitely tell a difference. If I could get another 2 inch out of the seat I think I would be very happy.

Just an FYI for those of you with the low profile seat on back order from Scooterworks. I spoke to Doug just now and he told me they don't expect them in for a couple of months. I think I will go the Diamond Upholstery route then.

Two things, Demo_Nic:

1) If you are interested, I have an old seat I'd sell that you could send in for re-upholstery. That way, you can still have a seat while they're working on yours.

2) The above being said, in my opinion the official low profile seat is worth waiting for because the seat pan itself is lower. On the normal seat pan, I could always feel that little bump that's there to accommodate a helmet in the pet carrier. The low profile seat eliminates that bump and is just a bit more shallow, so it's low without losing any cushion. What you do lose is a bit of pet carrier space, but it's really fine unless you want to put your helmet in there.

I grabbed my low profile seat off of my crashed scooter before I took it in for the insurance estimate. I'm really glad I did that since they totaled that scooter. I would have had to order another one for my new scooter and wait for it if I hadn't swapped it out.

Wouldn't the pleating eliminate the discomfort of the bump though? I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks for the new seat but I don't really want to wait a couple of months. I'll call Diamond and see what their turn around is. If it's over a month then I may just take you up on your offer. Thank you very much. BTW I'm also a 4'10"er. I had a Vespa smallframe before that I could almost flatfoot with both feet but with the Buddy stock seat I can almost flatfoot one side only. I'm comfortable riding flatfoot on one side only but I feel like I need another inch or so to do that with the Buddy.

I'm sure they can do something to make the bump less noticeable. My concern, though, would be that, in order to do that and make the seat lower, they'll have to compromise on the cushioning. It sounds like you know exactly what you're up against, though. I rode mine around with a stock seat for quite a while and it was perfectly doable. As you know, you only really need to get a toe down to keep the scooter upright. But it's nice to have that little bit of extra reach the low profile seat provides. Now I feel like I should close with some sort of super secret 4'10"er handshake or something.

I'm 5'5" and the regular seat works great for me. I can just barely flatfoot it.
