Long Ride Comin'
I'm ready! I just finished watching the "Long Way 'Round yesterday so I am stoked. I am riding to Roswell NM tomorrow, then back on Thursday.
It's 500 miles there and, the way I am planning, it is about 600 miles back. Since I will be on the scooter (I'm taking the RV-250) I will be exploring a bit and going on some roads that I have never traveled before. The worst part is that the ride home will likely take 15 or 16 hours.
I will be tweeting my progress (@ScootRN) if anyone is interested in following along. I am sure that a blog post on the Sky Island Riders' web page will follow in a week or so.
I am hoping the bike stays together,
Howard

Hondo Canyon was a beautiful day 6 first leg of CBR. We stayed on 380 towards Socorro, but battled a ferocious headwind up until Capitan. What an awesome area, ranches all over and our first taste of the Rockies. It was a big deal for me, being from the East. I wish I could do it again sans the wind. Enjoy Howard!Howardr wrote:Here is the map for the return ride: http://mapq.st/ORbukl

I'm all sorts of green with envy! I checked out the maps and that looks like an absolutely great ride. Can't wait to follow the tweet and check out the ride report when you're back.
This sounds to be a fairly spontaneous ride? I do that sort of thing all the time, albeit not to this degree.
And speaking of degree(s), what sort of temps do you expect to ride through?
Have a great trip!

The ride is kind of spontaneous. My 95 year-old grandmother's health is failing and I am wanting to go see her while I still can.
I was born is Roswell and have been back there many times over the years. However, I have never been on most of roads on the return route that I mapped.
I won't actually be going down I-25 either. If you zoom in on the map, NM Highway #1 parralels I-25 most of the way between Socorro and Truth of Consequences, so I'll be sticking to that if it is still rideable.
Temps are going to be low 100's in AZ and western NM. 90's in Roswell. It's monsoon season here. There is a 60% chance of rain tomorrow. Scattered thunderstorms on Thursday on the return trip.

Sounds awesome man! Can't wait to read up on it.
Yes, that's the *one* thing us poor souls stuck in redneckistan (aka Arizona) have to look forward to: Some of the best motorcycle riding in the world. Even if it's a bit hot in the summer, we still got the rest of the world beat with as many different bits of terrain and the great roads out here
