Richmond VA - Stolen 2012 Buddy 50

Post by Eardstapa »

Hey Guys, I live in Bryan Park, in Richmond VA. A couple of hours ago my scooter was stolen from my driveway. I was wondering if anybody runs into one, just be on the lookout. It's a 2012 Black Buddy 50 with Windshield and a Chrome rear luggage rack. The Scooter was purchased from ScootRichmond in Feb 2012. The last 8 of the Vin reads C1009448. If anybody has any information leading to the whereabouts of my bike it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your time.

Best,

Really sorry to hear. Unfortunately, RVA is one of the hottest scooter theft spots in the country. You should let Scoot RVA know about the theft. Keep an eye on Craigslist. Post about the theft to the scoot.net stolen scooter registry.

Do anything you can to get the word out locally. Scooters in RVA have been recovered when spotted by local riders there! May want to try contacting 7 Hills Scooter Club and any other local clubs or riding groups.

We have many Richmond members here, too.

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately, I was woken up at 4:30 this morning by the Henrico County Police who informed me that they had found my bike and arrested the people responsible. The Officer informed me that these three had been responsible for several similar thefts in the area.

They had managed to destroy it very well, and put 120 miles on the thing. It's unfortunately going to cost a lot of money to fix.

Here's where the story gets funny. At the time that my scooter was stolen, it was taken from my driveway (I usually keep it in the garage) which is outside my office window. The only reason I was inside was to purchase insurance for my scooter between errands. I got it fully covered against theft, with my policy beginning the NEXT day...then i go outside and no scooter! I was beyond annoyed.

Anyway, I'm just really thankful and really lucky to have it back. Apparently there were several other scooters in the cache that these kids had so hopefully several other people are having their property returned to them today.

I know it's only a 'toy' to me, but it's a shame when you can work really hard to save up for something and take very good care of it, and someone just comes along and decides this property should now belong to them.

Thanks again!

Best,

:x Oh you just touched my sore spot when it comes to any type of theft. What gives any one the right to take what you have worked so hard for.
If the law is still the same, your scoot is in the cost range of felony, so if all that is good has its way, the perps will get a good long stay at the best detainment center tax money can buy.

always start with the simple, it may end up costing you little to nothing

Thanks! it's appreciated. Well I got a look at one of the kids in the back of the car. Apparently they're responsible for a number of these things in the Richmond area, so if anyone in RVA is reading this and missing a scooter it might be a good idea to contact Henrico County Police Dept. I've seen the kid before "selling candy" out of a tupperware in my neighbourhood. I thought it was suspicious because it was just snickers, milky-ways, etc, not candy associated with an organization. The Kid alleged that it was for a keep kids off drugs campaign or something like that. A friend suggested that they may have been casing the area and it turns out they were correct.

Anyway, upon arrest, the officer told me that two of these three individuals had guns. They are African American teens all between 14-16. I hope that the information I have provided above might help someone else in the area find what belongs to them

WOW.

Did you get an insurance quote before you actually signed? In CA, in some cases if you received a quote you can be considered covered until you buy the full policy. I know that sounds insane, but I was actually covered this way once.

I wasn't allowed to leave the scooter store with the scooter until I showed proof of insurance.

My car insurance covers me for any new car I drive off the lot even if I haven't yet notified them of the purchase. I don't know if it would transfer over to a MC/scooter. Do you have car insurance? The new scooter might be covered. Also check with your homeowners/renters insurance if you have any. It's worth asking.

Did you buy in CA? You don't need insurance when you buy; most people don't have it until later. I think that's one reason for the CA "if you get a quote" regulation. Most people don't get their actual coverage until they have possession of the vehicle, the VIN number, etc.
