short trips in the LA area i can take on my buddy 50
hi all! i am new to scooting and this forum is GREAT! got an answer to question i posted almost immediately! sooooo, i was wondering if anyone can suggest short day scoots in the LA area i can take. my buddy is a 50cc so keep in mind i cannot go sooooper fast. she does 45 mph on a flat drive but hills she is a steady 30 mph and that is about it. plus i am new so anything over 40 mph still scares me a little. i have been all around LA and to Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, etc, but would love a nice scenic lil day scoot.

The 50cc will be too slow for the PCH as speeds routinely hit 55mph+. But you could head south through the beach cities, Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa, Redondo etc all the way down to the Palos Verdes peninsula. Traffic speeds are more relaxed and there are beautiful roads and views all around the PV peninsula.

Hey there!
The Hollywood Reservoir overlook:
http://goo.gl/maps/WFuX
Every time we go up there with our scooter group (see the link in my sig if you're interested in joining up!), someone who's lived in LA their whole life tells me they'd never been up there before. I'd never been until I went up with my first scooter rally.
I think a 50 may be fast enough for much of Mulholland Dr! Speed limit up there is 35mph. Sure, many go faster, but it's relatively flat up there. The difficulty might be picking a good route for getting to Mulholland. I'd suggest entering from Cahuenga (near the 101) at the eastern end, as there's not a steep, super-busy road going up (such as Laurel Canyon). A great place to come down (to the Valley or Beverly Hills) would be Beverly Glen. Benedict Canyon down into BH is also probably 50cc-friendly. Those are both slower roads and get far less traffic than Laurel or Coldwater.

Im from Pasadena and will be moving back to LA in 2 months
so Im beyond excited to ride out on flat streets. (Georgia roads are so hilly)
From Hollywood I say ride out anywhere !! And I say this because the more you ride out, the more you see that you can literally go anywhere as long as you have the gas to do it. Id take Sunset out to BH, or take Beverly straight through to Silverlake, maybe stop downtown then head West and take Avalon through to Long Beach.
I recommend having directions but counting on your sense of direction (heading North and then going West on a good street if you know your destination is in that direction) so that you learn the small streets that can be of help during rush hour.
There is always an olive green Buddy 50 Italia parked on Cahuenga right off the 101 on a side note . . .

If you want to know where a road leads, ask someone on their way back.

It's not there any more! I ride by that intersection on my way to/from work and always noted that scooter. Unless the owner got a cover, the scoot hasn't been parked there when I've ridden by for a few weeks now. That parking lot has been fenced off. Maybe they started charging for parking or something like that.Collette wrote:There is always an olive green Buddy 50 Italia parked on Cahuenga right off the 101 on a side note . . .
Maybe I'll borrow a 50cc scoot and we can do a group slow ride soon!
BTW, I work near Hollywood and Vine, across from Capitol Records. If you see a guy on a red Stella with black trim or a blue Vespa LX with checkered stripes, it's probably me! Say hi!

That's right on my commute. I come in from North Hollywood and vary my routes a bit, but always come down Cahuenga and cross over Pilgrimage Bridge. (If I'm running very early, I'll take an extra-long route ands hop up onto Mulholland then down Nichols Cyn to Hollywood Blvd. or do the Hollywood Reservoir ride from Barham to Los Feliz.
)
I see SO MANY Buddys around this area, especially up and down Cahuenga to Ventura.

There are no good routes to Long Beach from LA on any size of scooter! The best ones are the fastest ones.Pflower001 wrote:Avalon to long beach today. Having a nice lunch now. Brought a backpack with a book & my ukulele. Such a nice day! Deeeeeefinitely drove through some of the dodgier bits of town to get here. But woohoooo! Soooooooo fun!
