Who's the Chi-town peeps?

Post by Wheelz »

Life has thrown me a curveball, well a couple of curveballs as of late, and to make a long story short, I am Moving back to Chicago at the end of the month.
That gives me maybe a month and a half to get used to scootin in the city.
It's gonna be strange only scootin for part of the year, and I'll have to get used to traffic again, although down here I have seen some crazy shite head drivers.
I figure the winter with out scoot will get me back on the bike for getting back and forth to work, or the Public trans is always there.
I know Illnoise, and Lemont are in the area, but who else is in the Chicago, or suburbs from MB?
Got anytips for scootin in the Chi?

Welcome back. I just moved back myself.

Tips:
Head on a swivel at all times.
Stebel horn is a must.
When riding through neighborhoods I tend to concentrate my peripheral on the side of the intersection where the one ways are coming from.
I hope that makes sense.
And especially in the Spring, and at night: Get to know where the potholes are, and store that info away for quick reference.

Apart from that, I rather enjoy riding in the city. I get to places in a fraction of the time my friends do in cars. ...but I might split a lane or two from time to time ;)
Not to mention it's easier on the wallet with the price of gas in the city.
Welcome home, and ride safe.

Thanx for the reply Monamibuddy.

I rode a bike as my main form a transpo in the city for years, including a few years as a messenger, so I have a pretty good idea of what it will take.
I've been down here for almost six years so I am a bit out of practice.

I just need to find a job now, and I'll be set.
Three more weeks :D
Too bad it's happening at the end of summer, but I should be able to get a couple months in before I gotta put er up for a winters nap.
Mos def gonna look you, vader, and the rest of the Chi towners when I get there.

Thanx again,
Mike aka (Wheelz)
