A whats it worth thread buddy 50

Post by lovemysan »

I bought this scoot back in jan not running. I cleaned the carb and it ran. Long story short made a bonehead mistake and got the motor hot enough that it became lazy and smelled "hot". I immediately shut it down. Next day compression checked at 95 lbs. Dealer said that was low. I got price quotes on the parts to fix. We knew that the electric choke was bad. $95 echoke or $160 for the complete carb. $200-300 labor+parts to fix any motor damage. I decided to ruminate and bought a buddy 125 in the meantime. Later decided to try and fix the 50 for my dad. I took it back in and they had found a used e-choke so I had them clean the carb annnddd install a stage 1 pipe. They tried an 80-85 jet but it had no power and sounded weak. So I brought it home and took the stage 1 pipe off and stuffed it in the corner.
Fast forward 3 days ago I'm cleaning out the garage and listed it on CL for $475 needing work. I guy calls and insist to hear it run so I spend 30 minutes installing stock pipe and fire it up. It sounded pretty good so I take it around the block. Its running good so I run it up my "hill dyno" and it makes the exact same speed as the stock 2012 roughhouse. 32 mph uphill over 500 feet. I've been riding it 3 days now and it seems totally normal. Today I hit 50 BPH downhill and it'll run 45 mph in the flat. That leaves me to wonder should I sell it as a good used scooter or should I disclose its past history? And whats it worth? Part of me wants to give it to my Dad. Afterall it is a pearl white buddy, I love the color. Image

Did you do anything about the low compression? 120 is normal, 95 is a little low but it would still run.

A choke wouldn't change your compression, Only rings, cylinder or piston.

No, after sitting in the garage 4 months I pulled it out and installed the stock pipe and fired it up. Its running far better than it did before. I weigh 250 lbs and 32 mph uphill is good. I think the dealer underjetted it for stage 1 pipe. He tried an 85 and then an 80. I worked my way up to a 95 on the roughhouse with the stage 1 pipe.

I'd be up-front about the fact that it had problems, but you've worked on it and it's running well now.

If you give it to him, you definitely want to do full disclosure. Unless he's already written you out of the will. :)

I decided to pull the add off. I've been riding it around and it runs pretty good it has no problem pulling me to 45 mph indicated. I still have one guy that wants to check it out tonight. I told him I had decided to keep it and he offered me $550 as is. We'll see if he shows up.

I saw that listed on CL and I was going to call you as well. IF you still have it and ever decide to get rid of it let me know. I am looking for my first scooter!
