NBR: rear wheel hot!

So I drove my Kymco home last night, and the last mile or so was 'squirrely'. Once I parked, I found the rear wheel very hot.

now, it spins normally, no wobble.

I'm suspecting something in the brake calipers or some such, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced anything similar.

Was it the wheel or the tire that was hot?

This seems familiar. I believe that the '06 People 250 has a rear disk brake. If the rotor was warped or if the brake pads were dragging, you will get a wobble from the wheel. Braking generates heat, and the heat will dissipate from the brake rotor to the rim, so it's totally plausible that the wheel would get warm if you have a dragging brake.

How many miles do you have on the bike? Has the rear brake ever been serviced? Do you hear any grating or grinding sounds when you apply the brake? When you squeeze the brake lever, does it give you a range of movement where you can engage the brake gradually?

If you notice the weirdness while riding again, try squeezing the rear brake and"flicking" the lever forward as you release it. If the weirdness goes away, it would be a good bet that the brake pads aren't retracting fully.

As an aside, I replaced the disc brake pads on a Stella last night. It had run out of pad and was rubbing the pad backing plate on the rotor when the brake was engaged. New pads and a bit of sandpaper on the rotor later, the bike was good to go again. It has about 13.5K on it, but bear in mind that the front brake does the lions's share of stopping. If you have more miles than that on your People, you might want to give that brake a good look-over (pad thickness, brake rotor thickness & true, brake fluid level and fluid color).
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

unfortunately I haven't had time to dink with it, and the temps are dropping this weekend! eep!

it does have dual discs, so I'll look. it's over 36k now, and the rear pads could use replacing. I hope to order some parts for Kym coming up. It seems like a good time to replace the clutch and variator (both were looking kinda long in the tooth). I'll also look to replace the headlight and some other minor stuff. I already received a belt and air filter. had I known it would take 6 weeks to get them, I might have just gone ahead and ordered the other parts too. however, variators and clutch aren't cheap!

Also, it was the entire wheel that was hot. I mean, it is right next to the exhaust, but still! It also felt like it was fighting me a little on the last few turns. hopefully just the pads are iffy, and not the rotor or the caliper. Both are really pricey for the part, and I've been told by some local techs that it is nigh impossible to get the rotor off the rear wheel, so often it ends up breaking and you replace both. That would suck, considering I just put a new rear tire on it in August. I haven't noticed any real wobble in the tire though.
