Ladies with Draggin' Jeans? (or any other kevlar skinnies)

Post by KeLynn »

I have a little money socked away from my holiday bonus that I want to spend on kevlar jeans. I've tried just about every pair I can find in my size from shops/sites in the US, but they are all so unflattering. If it comes down to it I'll choose safety over attractiveness, but I'd really like to not look like a pile of lumpy potatoes if I can help it!

I upped my budget and am really eyeballing the Draggin Slix: http://www.dragginjeans.net/Womens/Slix ... e.tpl.html

or Twista: http://www.dragginjeans.net/Womens/Twis ... e.tpl.html

SO! Does anyone have these? Do you like them? How's the fit/sizing?

OR! If you don't have these, but know of other skinny kevlar jeans, please let me know! I'd rather buy from a company in the US, but I haven't been able to find a skinny silhouette anywhere.

(Dainese makes some but it looks like there's only kevlar in the knees. I also value my butt, so....)

Drayko is good gear. The only CE rated jeans on the market. I wear the men's jeans myself. Check out the women's Drift jeans. If you need more fashion options, Sartso Jeans look exactly like regular jeans and have a lot of Kevlar coverage.

I have draggin camo cargo, hood, BMW and red route jeans. None of these are skinny tight but more of the regular jean variety. My favorites, both for quality and look would be the 2 that do not fit me, the British made hood and the BMW. I believe that the BMW jeans are no longer made but are called either "new denim" or "maverick" . Mine have a bit of a different texture to them but were comfortable for the second that I had them on me. I also liked that the texture was a little different. The hood jeans have a full sleeve of Kevlar inside. Most of these jeans have armor but personally I prefer to strap on armor either on top or underneath the jeans. I therefore control the ce of the armor, have armor that shouldn't slip in a crash and can easily unclip and store once at destinations.

Sorry. I forgot that I also have some icon jeans that I also like only because they fit me well. What I don't like about them is that there is no Kevlar in the butt area and that they hang close to the hips (a love hate thing really), which means that I have to wear a belt with them to feel remotely safe. That is right, I am saying stick with jeans that go towards mom jeans on the waist. Let the rest of the jean say "I look good" and cover the waist with a cute top and protective jacket.

Good luck!

What about cordura as an alternative to Kevlar?

I found a new pair of jeans on Revzilla (http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dain ... vlar-jeans) - so new there's not a product image for it yet and still on pre-order - that sound like they are going to be the style of the Dainese skinny jeans I mentioned but with kevlar embedded in the whole thing and reinforcements in the knees, instead of just in the knees like their current style. They don't come out until Spring, though.....blech!

I'm really surprised at the jeans that don't have kevlar in the butt - I get why you wouldn't want to put it down the entire length of the pants, but some things are important to protect!

I'm fine with high rise/mom jeans-type waists (I feel like it's a safer call, even if it's not cute!) but all the ones I've tried so far have been pretty unflattering down the whole leg on me, not just the waist area.

I actually hadn't heard of that. Do you have any recs? I googled but what I found was mostly tough bags and cordura-hemmed snowboard pants, I couldn't find jeans but maybe I'm being Google-dumb today!

I knew Drayko had a good rep, but I didn't know they were the only CE-rated jeans around! I actually really like the Sartso skinnies, but as luck would have it I think those are the only style you have to order from their Australian site instead of their US site. I emailed them and they confirmed their US site isn't going to sell them.

Has anyone reading this tried those, either? Input on size/fit? If I end up having to order from Australia anyway, then they're probably almost as much in the running as the Draggins...

It has come to my attention I might be too picky for my own good. In my mind it sounds reasonable to want plain skinnies with lots of Kevlar, but apparently I'm the odd woman out in America. I should move to Australia ;-)

No, you're not the odd woman out. By any means. All I want is a pair of black Kevlar-reinforced jeans (with armor) in my size. Well, OK, maybe two different pair. While skinny would rock, I'll take mom jeans. I'm not picky, just fat. And not rich :-(

I may have to do more research on Stormswift's suggestion and get some Cordura fabric and jeans I like, then turn the whole mess over to a colleague of mine who sews.

Related question: Does anyone know if Cordura baselayer fabric really has decent abrasion resistance? While Googling Cordura, i found prefab Cordura baselayer pants at a very reasonable price. It wouldn't be anything for my colleague to put armor pockets in there!

(and with affordable armored abrasion resistant leggings, i could wear skirts!)

I hope I didn't hijack your thread KeLynn, but I thought the baselayer question might be relevant.

This is actually what I was contemplating : my favorite pants and cordura inserts sewn on. I was also thinking of cutting out some material and replacing with mesh cirdura if there is such a thing. My biggest problem is summer. In the colder weather I just wear skii pants over jeans with separate knee armor I have that can be worn with anything.

Threadjack away! It didn't even occur to me to buy fabric and have it sewn into pants, but that sounds really interesting. If anyone does it, let me know how it works out!

I didn't talk about it to my colleague today because she mentioned in passing her sewing machine is in the shop :-p

I DID, however, exchange emails with someone from Tru-Spec, who advised me Cordura baselayer fabric would not be suitable for riding leggings. I had suspected that would be the case. So for skirt wearing i'll have to pony up for Draggin K-legs.
