Burned my Biskets

Post by pcbikedude »

I had to park my scooter in the sun for awhile today. With the tremedously hot weather today, I burnt my buns when I sat on my scooter.

I just hate that!

You could pull up your floorboard rubber mat and lay it on the seat till you return.

Ride it like you enjoy it!

I have a smallish towel in the pet carrier (sometimes) that I'll wrap around the seat so it's held down with the ends in the pet carrier when the seat's shut. Usually does alright at keeping my seat from cooking, especially now that I have a leather one.

I was at Vespa Thousand Oaks today for their third year celebration. The temperature was in the 100's and I noticed a number of Vespa riders wetting (cooling) their seats down with cold water before they took off. Because I have leather, I just use a large white beach towel.

I laughed at this product when I first saw it in Los Gatos, but have to say that if we had to suffer this kind of heat for longer periods of the year it wouldn't seem so ridiculous:

Keeps your seat cool and bakes potatoes in the pet carrier while riding!

I kept my scoot under a tree today at Vespa Thousand Oaks but did sit on the black seat of an Aprilia Scarabeo 500. Hot-cha!

That 500, btw, feels no larger than a GTS. :)

I have a friend with a coolass and he says it works great.

His GTS looks kind of silly with what looks like a gold tinfoil hat covering the seat, but it keeps him comfy on hot days.

Not that we have had many of those this year. I blinked and missed summer.

Cool Ass sent me one to review, I was going to try it out this weekend at Slaughterhouse. I rarely leave my bike in the sun and I rarely ride in the rain, so it's all academic for me, but I'll post my thoughts on 2strokebuzz soon and link it here.

That is the reason I put a cover on my bike. I have a temperature gauge on my bike and sometimes it will be pegged at 130 degrees. I know it gets hotter in other parts of the country but that is pretty hot and the cover cuts down on the seat being too hot but my levers are still hot to the touch so I put my gloves on first.

Send some of that hot weather to Michigan. The last two days it's only been in the low 60's.

+1 to get to work this morning I had jeans, rain pants, long socks, a long sleeve blouse, heavy fleece jacket, the quilted liner for my riding jacket in my riding jacket, a heavy fleece scarf wrapped around my neck and tucked in the front of my inner fleece jacket and my gloves. I looked like the Michelin man, but arrived to work reasonably warm (my hands were cold).

Time to dig out the winter gloves and wind proof b....ava for my neck. I am going to order one of the scooter skirts that attaches to the RV250 to keep my legs warm and dry.

It is not even September yet! I think I might need to order another cord of firewood.

CoolAss Seat Covers

Post by Brian Herwick - CoolAss »

Hi Folks - please forgive me for the delay in posting comments / replies to your posts. My fault. Have been busy with other elements of my businesses. BUT - the good news is - thanks to so many of you Genuine Scooter enthusiasts, we've responded with a size that's perfect for Stella, Buddy and Roughhouse. We just launched a new website that talks about it www.genuinecoolass.com - look at Scooter Seat Covers, size DS-M.

Many thanks to all for your input and enthusiastic support.

Be safe - and COOL (and dry...)

I've , since my last post here, started using the Coolass to protect my leather on my Vespa more than my butt but it works great for both.

Don't try this on a leather seat but...

Post by Rusty J »

Keep a towel or rag on the bike, and a bottle of water (doesn't take too much).

When returning to the bike, lay the towel or rag over the seat, soak it with water and let the water evaporate until dry. When the towel is dry again, the seat will be cool where the towel was laying.

Paper towels (or, if that's all you have available) paper napkins will also work.

This might not work on very humid days, though.

An actual seat cover (particularly if it's reflective) would be simpler.

Owning both the Scarabeo 500 does feel a bit bigger than the GTS but not as much difference as between our Buddy 125 and the GTS.

Cool Ass Rocks!

Yeah my seat looks like a ham sandwich...but I am a daily commuter in Florida. During the summer it is either intense sun or intense rain. I have been using them on my maxi scooters for about 7 years now. For me they last about 3 years (I'm on my third) and are well worth the price. I figure that 5 days a week in South Florida for three years is well worth the price.

All I can say is they do what they say they will do...they just freaking work!

When I was in the Dominican Republic, we'd pass rows of bikes with pieces of torn-off cardboard laying on the seat. It seriously took me a moment to figure it out. I've never tried to put bare skin on the seat, though... plus, the 170 had a white seat anyway 8) I am very tempted to put a white seat on my next Buddy also
