Buddy's First Maintenance
Had my first maintenance performed today by my former dealer. Because they no longer sell Genuine and carry no parts, I purchased my own oil filter, oil and gear oil so they could do the service. Weird thing is, they used only the gear oil and told me I didn't need to replace the oil or oil filter until the second service. This seems to go against everything I've read on this site and the owner's manual, but they insisted it was per the manufacturer. I have 240 miles on the scooter now and wonder if I can really wait until 2,000 to do this, or should I bring it back to them and insist they do it?

Re: Buddy's First Maintenance
This sounds very odd. Maybe they were busy and didn't want to trouble themselves to do an oil change. Goofy stuff. Unless the first maintenance was free, I would prefer to go to someone who says something that matches the manufacturer's manual. If what they said really doesn't match the Genuine manual (and it wasn't a miscommunication) then I would definitely find another repair shop for any future work. I feel for you - it sounds like this is a definite case of, "Sucks to be you."Skippy wrote:Had my first maintenance performed today by my former dealer. The buddy is easy enough to do it yourself though
I just bought the service manual (on PDF) the last time I took my 170I to a dealer. I live too far away to take both my scoots down to L.A. The closest dealer to me is La Verne and they wont work on genuine scooters anymore unless you bought the scoot from them which I think is a cop-out. They claim to fix any bike but when you call them they don't wanna take your scoot. Kinda stupid huh!

I called them back and they confirmed that they did in fact change the oil, but not the filter! So I put my new filter on myself this weekend. I'm hoping what little oil remained in the old filter with whatever metal shards are in it from break-in won't affect the engine until the next maintenance. I topped off the oil since I lost some with the filter change and am good to go. Thanks for responses.

Sounds good.
I don't want to speak out of turn or give negative feedback to a dealer I haven't done business with, but a scooter or motorcycle shop should know a new engine break-in needs to have the oil and filter changed after the first few hundred miles. And that the oil should be dino until at least the next oil change when you can start using synthetic.
Again, not to disparage but you may want to start looking for an alternative shop to use.

I agree with Tocsik's comments, but I would say that you WILL want to start looking for an alternative shop to use. (are you sure they actually changed the gear oilTocsik wrote:Again, not to disparage but you may want to start looking for an alternative shop to use.

Tell me about it! They're not a dealer anymore, but the only one within range for me to drive the scoot to. They did change the gear oil b/c I brought it with me and it was open and used. Weird that they wouldn't change the filter because I supplied it as well and the oil. They insisted the maintenance specs said I didn't need the filter changed yet, but I didn't know they took that position until they were done and I was paying and ready to leave.

Re: Buddy's First Maintenance
At just under 500 miles (I know, the manual says 300 kilometers), I had the first maintenance done on my '12 170i Italia today. I supplied the oil filter as the shop is not a Buddy dealer. They did everything per the owner's manual recommendations, including checking for any loose fasteners, and my total cost was $110.00. I'm quite satisfied and will definitely go back to them again.Skippy wrote:Had my first maintenance performed today by my former dealer.
