2012 Buddy 170i - knocking noise at low speed

Your help in diagnosing my 2012 Buddy 170i making a knocking noise at low speeds is greatly appreciated.

Knocking Noise: sounds like a *thock thock* and generally occurs in pairs.
Low Speeds Only: you can really only hear the noise when accelerating and decelerating below about 18 mph.
Physical Source of Noise: left-side of scooter; cannot tell whether it's coming from the front or rear.
Relevant Maintenance History: aside from replacing some plastics recently, none. I've always been up-to-date on oil, oil filter, and gear oil changes.

was the plastic replacement from a crash?

Yes, it was a right-sided low-side with no impact on anything besides the ground. It happened about two years ago, but the plastics were replaced about two months ago.

same thing going on here
it's not a loud knock but noticeable
thought it was the clutch but ran the motor with variator off and still makes the noise
valves are ok, plug says slightly rich so i might lean it up some
