Can you Push Start a Stella?

Post by zoiberg137 »

New owner here and am wondering if its possible to push start a stella like you would a 5 spd car or motorcycle. I was thinking it might come in handy if it stalls while slowing down in traffic (I know, if its adjusted correctly that shouldn't happen...).

I tried releasing the clutch while running with the bike, but the rear tire just locked up on me and skidded. Because of this, I'm afraid to try it at a faster speed-wouldn't want that wheel locking up while I'm on the bike coasting downhill!

Drop it in second or third, drop the clutch. Second would spin the motor a bit more assertively. No throttle. When she sputters, grab clutch and brake her to a stop. First gear it a bit to tall to spin the crank and the tire's grip is insufficient to make it happen.

^^^ That will work :)
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

It works pretty well if you break a clutch cable and don't have a spare on-board. Run the bike, jump on and twist to second. Once you get on top of second, close the throttle and feel for third. Rode thirty miles with plenty of traffic lights before. Thank goodness that there wasn't much traffic!

Yeah...but sometimes the quadrant is jacked, or the lever is missing, or one kick isn't going to get it. I have pushed and been pushed many a time getting a scooter started - good times!
