reduced MPG and pimping my buddy

Post by skully93 »

It could be because my commute is now much more stopngo, but my mileage has dropped the past couple of tanks, from 80 to about 60. Otherwise it seems pretty much fine.

It's only been 1k miles since my last oil change, and they did the plug and such at that time.

Now, we're at 11k miles, valves have never been done, brakes are near done, and my sliders have been in there for 6 or 7k.

I have nearly another year of my shop service plan. This includes 20% off parts, even performance ones, and free labor.

Any other thoughts? Otherwise I think another paycheck is in order, then I'm going to do all the goodies that I haven't yet.

How's your air filter? Tire pressure?

Air filter should be good (replaced at last service).

I haven't checked the TP in a week, but I just over-inflated them less than 2 weeks ago. not enough deflation to account for -20mpg

My petcock on the 07 125 is not shutting off all the way, and if I park it in the garage it has a strong gas smell. Never really noticed the smell outdoors. My mileage also dropped just like yours. Also started to idle rough and was sometimes hard to start as it got worse. Cheap part and easy to fix. Just waiting for it to come in. Winter storm pushed everything back in shipping land.

Might be time for sliders again?

I wonder if somehow one of your levers are stuck on?

Curious if bad gas can cause this?

That's a huge drop in mpg, keep us posted when you figure it out.

I'm wondering if the plug didn't foul anyway. I'll look into it tomorrow after work since we'll have sun!

At 11k miles, valves have never been done I would start with a valve adjustment. Very easy to do. Check for any fuel leaks also.

Its a combo of stuff. the Valves, the rollers time for a overhaul of some stuff.. check the brakes if it sits out for dragging .

The other thing I forgot about is that I got gas at a specific spot the past 2 tanks. fueled up differently this time, so we'll see if that has an effect.

My service interval isn't for another 1k miles, but if I do the 'performance' parts I will have them do the valves at the same time. I know I've never left it overnight so they probably haven't been done.

The kicker is I am waiting for the shop's new location, which is 6 blocks away. Then I can drop it off, wait a few days, and walk on home.

How is the idle? If the shop has done all the work - and the last service was extremely cold or maybe a new tech adjusted it up to high - could effect your mpg real quickly. We have had this happen - otherwise 11K is nothing and should not change your milage like that.

Idle is pretty low. It still dies on cold days at stops sometimes (I had not adjusted it for winter). So it's not a high idle.

After this tank I'll see what I get. If it's still low I'm leaning towards the plug. Performance is otherwise very normal :goofy:
