Buddy 50 or 125

Post by FrictionShifter »

Hey. I am looking to dump my Bajaj Chetak after 5 years of good service, and looking to switch up to a Buddy. But a little issue is what to consider - 50 or 125? Typically my rides are short, local, and when the season is right, straight to Dodger Stadium and back. A few hills along the way, nothing too bad. And no more than 20 mile round trips ever. It seems the 50 would suit me fine. I realize a step down from my 125 Bajaj, but oh well.
Also, a 50 I could afford to purchase new, but the 125 I would have to find used.
Another thing I should add, is my wife wants to learn to ride, so maybe the 50 is better to start out? The one time she tried the Bajaj (manual btw) it was near disaster.

As it turns out, since I posted this I found a nice 2007 black 125 on CL! just drove it home last night, it is a great ride. I had a Bajaj Chetak, which is 150, manual 4T, etc. Also a nice ride, but I really like the automatic, and after a test ride I felt a 125 was definitely necessary over the 50.

Some pluses to the Buddy - the shocks are much smoother than the Bajaj, the front light of the Buddy is way brighter, filling gas is a much more simple operation (my Bajaj had a split seat which was always awkward), and finally, that little white button for the turn signal - ingenious. The benefits of modern life.

After your riding a Bajah, I was gonna suggest to you that you stick with the 125 Buddy. A 50cc would be dissapointingly slow after owning a 150cc, one would think... (Even tho the Bajah's were known not to be terribly fast.)
If your Buddy is a 2007 you can make the headlight even brighter by replacing it's 30W bulb with a Sylvania SilverStar 55/65W bulb. A lot of us have done that, with positive results...
Namaste,

On the Buddy I was easily able to hit 55 on a flat stretch. And could feel it wanted to go faster. I was actually never able to get above 60 on the Bajaj. Not that I make a habit of getting up to such speeds.
