Genuine Repair Shops in Los Angeles?

Post by dnfdevil »

Hello,

I'm BRAND new to the forum.

I am considering purchasing a 2009 Buddy 125cc.

I currently ride a 2005 Honda Metropolitan 49cc...just need a little more power!

My question is: are there many repair shops in Los Angeles that service Genuine (Buddy) scooters? I am planning to buy from a store in Marina del Rey, CA...and they have a service dept...but I'd like to know there are other options just in-case they ever go out of business?!?!

Lastly: if anyone is interested in purchasing my old Metropolitan (2005, 49cc, 2300miles - $1350) let me know!

Thanks all
Looking forward to becoming a Buddy owner soon

Any dealer in los angeles or CA should service a bike, take it to your dealer after you buy it when you're ready for the service, even if it is "expensive" you'll be helping them out, it's sad to see scooter dealers close. First service can go from 100-150 dollars which is an oil change, valve check, and many other small checks. I had my brake fluid checked, screws and bolts checked, everything in a long list. Some dealers are different and just do a few things, but they're the pro's, they do things for a reason and charge the prices they do for a reason.

I'm assuming you're referring to Route 66 Modern Classics (http://www.rt66mc.com/). That's where my wife and I purchased our Buddies. I wouldn't worry about them going under. They've been around a while, and they're part of the family that owns the Harley-Davidson dealership next door. I drop in there about once a month, and it looks as if they're turning over their stock regularly. Nobody looks desperate or anxious, and I see the same employees every time, so nobody's being laid off.

And if they do go under, just get a manual and fix the scoot yourself. How hard could it be?

Genuine maintains a list of authorized dealers on their WEB site:

If its not to far for you, you can get good service from Mike at NoHo Scooters. That's where I bought mine and had first service done.

North Hollywood Scooters get a thumbs up from me. Hung out and got to know them after I bought a used St. Tropez (originally sold from their store). All very nice guys and do good work too.

There are only 2 authorized Genuine dealers in the LA area: Route 66 and NoHo. I believe there will be another in the Thousand Oaks/NW LA County area at some point; maybe in the spring. NoHo is my local dealer. Mike and his crew are really great and do a lot to support the local scooter community.

Either way, I think having your service and work done by a Genuine dealer is important. For one thing, they're the only ones who can handle warranty issues. Also, they have direct communications with Genuine so will be aware of any common issues, will have an easier time ordering parts and so on.

Slightly OT:

LA scooterists, join the LA Scooter Meetup Group! Several rides planned over next few weeks and more to come throughout the so-called winter.

got 3 services done at this place. nothing but praises for this place. they also rent harleys so i think that is their bread and butter however they got a good knowledge of the genuine scooter product and came through every time.

they also rent the Genuine Buddy 125/50cc scooters for 50 dollars a day. you can test it out. my wife did and fell in love with it. we plan on getting her a 150 after the holidays. the best part if you rent a a scooter and decide to get one, they will put the 50 bucks on the new scooter they sell you.

thumbs up for Route 66 Glen and the crowd are good people.

I know this is a very old thread, but I've been looking for an update on Genuine mechanics in Los Angeles. I just Yelped NoHo and discovered they closed a few years ago, so I' wondering if anyone has updates to contribute to is thread.

I'm looking at buying used and looking for good (and current!) suggestions for mechanics.

I've been in to Route 66 when I was considering buying a new Stella, but the sales people didn't seem to like the Stella much and were steering me to the Buddy and Hooligan.

I also see Scooter Dynasty is a Genuine retailer, any experience here?

Thanks all!
