Wiring Question
Can anyone point me to a power wire that is only powered when the scooter is running?
I'm trying to do a hidden power connection for my GPS but I don't want it draining my battery when not in use.

There's a 1A fuse on the socket, but the R/W wire that leads to the socket does not have a fuse.jmazza wrote:Isn't there already a 1A fuse on the socket? I know I just changed one when I blew the socket!!
So, I guess it depends on where you tap into the wire. I'd recommend tapping into the wire and then adding a separate in-line fuse. That way, having more than one accessory connected to the same fuse won't blow it.

Tapping the wire before the fuse uses the battery box fuse (10A)tyger23 wrote:There's a 1A fuse on the socket, but the R/W wire that leads to the socket does not have a fuse.jmazza wrote:Isn't there already a 1A fuse on the socket? I know I just changed one when I blew the socket!!

Ahhhh... gotcha. And this is precisely why I am afraid to install a Stebel horn myself.tyger23 wrote:There's a 1A fuse on the socket, but the R/W wire that leads to the socket does not have a fuse.jmazza wrote:Isn't there already a 1A fuse on the socket? Take the Yellow/Green and Black wires from the horn and plug them into the two blades for the activation switch on a relay... then you can plug the horn into one of the power lines I mentioned above and a ground. If you connect to the fused power, test the horn and make sure it doesn't blow the fuse, if it does, tap the straight power wire and add a 15A inline fuse.

My power install has it's own fuse so I don't think it really matter what line I use. My only requirement is that it be under the hood (as opposed to in the console area) and not hot when the key is in the off position.Kurzer wrote:That one is on a 1A fused line, so you'd have to splice before the fuse... or...
Fused: Red w/ White tracer coming into the ignition switch
Not fused: Red coming into the starter relay
The starter relay is where I was hoping to get power, just didn't know which wire was always hot and which was hot when they key is on. Thanks for the tip!
