That is very exciting – Thanx for the clip!

Gotta say this appears to be the first legit upgrade I heard off (other than a windscreen) – heard of changing this, changing that, never really making any sense – this appears to be the real deal.

So with a quick search it wasn’t very hard to find the suggested parts at a couple of MRP Power Dealers; total comes out to $400.00 - $500.00.

Anyone do this mod?

Really? Maybe I am just dumb but I could only find a couple of the parts on that list and I checked about 6 dealer websites. Could you link some of those up?

I looked here: and found the parts, they all sell the stuff at different prices; not sure if just one place sells everything.

I think the list on the first part of that video is the most complete that I have been able to find... aside from generic clone Gy6 parts that would probobly kill our buddies..

and a Prima exhaust :P

So was it concluded that there was no cylinder kit or cam upgrade that would work for the 125?

most of the stuff that i have seen so far doesnt look like it would work... i have really only been looking into this stuff for the last two weeks... but the general consensus on this forum seems to be that any if not most of the generic Gy6 engine parts are gonna screw with our buddys

I've been waiting for this upgrade, but I'd feel better if my dealer was on their list. I guess I'd like that "endorsement".

I wish I could buy a second Buddy to experiment on!

I have no firsthand experience with MRP parts, but before you jump in and spend some money... These guys don't have the best reputation for making quality parts. I find it interesting that they're not sold in many (or any) Genuine dealerships. it might be worth your while to ask around about them, even call your dealer and ask what they know about them.

Have a look at this thread, which contains this and other tidbits:
Keys wrote:I know dealers who won't have anything to do with MRP because of quality and customer service issues. I personally have in my possession a belt from MRP that was advertised to fit the Buddy 125. Yes. It fits...but it sapped about 20% of my power because the angle was wrong. The length and width were correct, but the angle apparently was wrong enough to adversely affect my performance.
This is the belt they fit on the scoot in the video. [EDIT: For some reason, they don't use their own belt. They use a Pollini. Huh?]

Also check this out:
viewtopic.php?p=25855&highlight=mrp#25855

As I said, I have no firsthand experience, but I'd be pretty cautious about quality and service when swapping out the variator, etc.

The video is a good demo on cracking that transmission open, though. If you want to swap your own rollers, this gets you 75% of the way there!

Yea I’m approaching this cautiously, it’s not a lot of money but it is hard earned money. The fact “pocphil” would comment, as others, on MRP quality makes me concerned.

I like that MRP had a complete package – it looks like they are actually changing gear ratios with new variator fan and rear clutch that may improve performance. Replacing just the rollers or just a belt would not have the overall effect MRP seems to be intending.
In the video didn’t they use an alternate belt, not a MRP?

I didn't research that much but the 3 or so websites listed at MRP's site basically sell low quality chinese scooters.Where are all the name brand scooter sites? That's a red flag for me.Also it seems MRP should list on their site every part & for which scooter's there for.I know they don't sell directly to us from their site but it's still a good idea to list all the parts,so we are all not calling our dealers to ask,do you carry,do you carry this, huh huh.I don't know but something isn't right......Later

Oops, you're right—they use a Pollini. That makes me wonder why they wouldn't use the belt they make...?!

Re-watching the video, I notice there's a lot of mention of "GY6" engines and parts. Most Asian scooters that are not Hondas use variations of the GY6 engine, but the parts are not necessarily interchangeable. Last night, Mike from NoHo Scooters told me that some Kymco transmission parts, for instance, are actually stamped "GY6." They won't work in PGOs.

Seriously... Every time we find something that looks cool, nobody knows if it will actually work. I guess I'll just stick with putting the new sliders in for now. I'll wait for one of you fools to throw this transmission kit in and tell me if it actually works (or if it destroys buddy).

While we are talking about destroying buddies... Does anyone know what a new motor will cost me if I do this thing, and it ends up killing lil red?

As long as the tranny on the buddies/blurs have normal variators and clutches as most other GY6 trannies, the parts will fine. The only thing you will have to be careful of is belt sizing and if you do anything to the motor itself.

My "hunch" is that the normal GY6 variator and clutch parts could probably fit. You'd have to buy them and try and install.

I know there are a couple owners here with Kymcos and Buddys. Give it a shot. Or—who has a Honda Met? Or a Chinese scooter? Or just about any 50/125/150cc scoot from anywhere in Asia? Most of them are GY6-based, right?

New engines are not that easy to come by. I know of a couple instances where an engine replacement was needed (under warranty) and the owner either got a new scoot or an engine pulled from another Buddy in the shop. Given the fact that Buddys are selling like hotcakes and there's a supply shortage, I wouldn't count on either of those things happening.

There are some totaled Buddys out there with used engines in them. These usually wind up sitting in the back of dealers' garages or in insurance salvage auctions. A lot of footwork would be required to get one.

I also own a diamo tracer with a normal gy6 in it. I guess I could compare the blur tranny to the tracers. However not sure how soon I'm going to do that.

I just got in from the garage after replacing my wife’s Kymco People 150 drive belt. I know for a fact the x-misson parts are labeled Kymco.
By the way her scoot has over 12,000 miles on it:
The plug was just 0.05 mm off
The valves were perfect
The belt was out of tolerance by just a hair so I went ahead and replaced it anyway
The variator weights were OK, slight flat spots, but OK
The variator pulleys were slightly worn but I didn’t want to replace yet
The air cleaner was shot – need a new one

I hope my Buddy holds up as well! ( I may check it sooner than 12K)
