I tie mine up at a street sign just off the sidewalk (there is a nice triangle patch of pavement in my buildings parking lot right next to the poll). So far it has been unmolested (at least at home anyway) and its far enough off the sidewalk I'm not worried about it.

I would say anywhere you can toss a chain around it and something that won't move easily and is out of the way of foot traffic is always a good place.

If you got a bike rack, ask the land lord if it's ok to chain it there. Otherwise, ask him of a land anchor will be ok to install. They're heavy post you put into the ground and provide a nice spot to chain to.

im kinda lucky at my current apt, i have a covered porch with columns to chain the scoot to.

i did have a Zuma stolen at another apt where i only had a parking space

id definitely be be working with the landlord for an arrangement where i could keep it locked to something if i lived elsewhere.

I read someone lets their scooter cool down after riding then takes it inside their apartment for safe keeping...(one person even uses the elevator to get their Buddy up to the floor they are on).

Guess it depends on what kind of crime area you live in.

i brought my scooter into my apt once, and it emitted this gasoline smell that was pretty strong, even after the scoot had cooled down before bringing it in, i just park it underneath the stairs and chain it to the stair posts, its out of the way of foot traffic and nobody has complained about it so far

Yes, I've heard about the gas smell so it is something to be aware of.
I don't know how long they let it cool down or if kept very little gas in the tank. It is still a safety concern with gas inside an apt.

Gas sometimes drips out if there is access unused, or too much from fill up, I wouldnt bring it into the house/apartment unless you want gas stains and the smell in your floors.

In the parking lot with the steering lock on. I am reasonably sure I am the only one in my town with the white seat and grips on a pinky.

There's alot of stories about people having scooters stolen when they live in apartments. Scoot.net has countless stories of them being stolen at night even ones with chains.

Theft was the main reason the person kept it inside the apt...not sure if they had a mat for underneath the scooter but that was their solution.

another solution to scoot theft is putting it on the patio/porch/balcony?

An apartment that has a garage would work, but price for the apartment may be more expensive.

I am really lucky, we have a really poorly designed under ground parking lot at my apartment. There is alot of dead space where cars cant fit, so the manager said i could park my scooter there for free, i just had to put down a security deposit on the door remote. If you are moving into an apartment that is managed by a porperty management company and the resident manager wont let you chain it up, or install a ground anchor write a letter or call the property management company and ask to speak with the Property Manager for your building and see if they can do something. Sometimes it can considered a capital improvement if you install a ground anchor.... <--- I work at an income property management company...

Luckily for me, I live in a neighborhood with little crime AND above a restaurant. So we have a locked gate in the back and a staircase that leads up to the apts. So I just park it under the stairs with a cover and a disc brake lock.

I chain mine to the back stairwell railing. I wish there was a more secure way, but really, if someone wants to steal my Buddy they will...just like if someone wants to steal my car or rob my condo...it's just life right? That is what insurance is for. At any rate, I keep it chained. The dealer who dropped it off said if using the stairwell railing ever becomes an issue, you CAN get these little metal disc/bump things to install in the lot somewhere. You'd need to get the approval from your apt complex but from what I've heard, the little disc/bump things drill into the asphalt/concrete and provide stability as well as security for the scoot. I'll call them for more info and post it here once I have it.

i would check with the office or landlord.

i manage an apartment community and motorcycles/scooters are required to occupy parking spaces just like all other vehicles. they are not allowed to park under the stairwell, on the sidewalk, etc.

we just park in a space and lock our scoots together.

I usually park my scooter perpendicular to my car in the same spot. I drive a Scion, so it's not very long. The scooter and car live together in harmony in the same spot. No one has bothered it yet.

I also keep a cover on it 99% of the time to keep it from attracting so much attention from wandering eyes and sticky fingers. :)
