People say a lot of offensive things relating to scooters… Please, let's not repeat them all here. Folks have varying levels of sensitivity and even reiterating some of these comments can lead to avenues of discussion we don't want to contend with.

Haha. Yesterday I pulled out from work right behind a couple of Harley riders. Of course I caught up with them in about 20 seconds and I stayed slightly behind them as if I belonged in their posse. It just so happened that they kept taking the same turns as me. They kept looking at me in their mirrors. After awhile the lead rider motioned to the other guy to pull over, and they stopped while I passed them. I guess I was cramping their style on my Italia.

Needless to say I thought it was pretty hilarious.

a guy on a harley that had been riding quite a ways behind me for a couple of miles pulled right up next to me at a stoplight and just nodded at me. seeing as how conversation was impossible between my ff helmet and his roaring pipe, it was a sort of uncomfortable few minutes before the light turned green. i didn't quite know what to make of it...

For some reason that always makes me a little nervous, as if I'm subconsciously afraid they'd pull me over just to mess with me. (I'm sure they have much better things to do.)

I got pulled over and ticketed by a motorcycle cop last week. Long story, suffice to say, I was speeding and got nailed in a speed trap. Easy to do on the Buddy. The sight of my orange Buddy next to his enormous blue Harley was comical. The area where I live in downtown Denver is also regularly patrolled my moto cops and they park their big machines in our garage or near the door. Without exception (in my experience), moto cops are totally respectful of the scooterist and see us as fellow riders.

The guy who pulled me over understood that I was paying more attention to my surroundings than to the speedometer so he did cut me a break. Unless you're acting like a hooligan, this is pretty typical. Also, moto cops tend to be highly skilled riders and they'll sometimes make technical riding recommendations after they write you up. Didn't happen this time.

As for the guy overheard in the OP, he's an asshole and so are his friends. Probably a bunch of "outlaw" dentists and accountants.

I know and work with a lot of Harley guys. There is of course some fun joking and ribbing...both ways...but they are good guys. They like their hogs as much as I like my scooters. One of them wants to trade for a day and try the Burgman, and they ALL love the Vespa. These aren't posers, these are guys that work hard for a living.. roughnecks (yes...that is their job title) drillers, toolpushers, and spend their money on what they like.

Remember that 98% of all Harleys ever made are still on the road.

The other 2% made it home... (I couldn't help it!)

I think the Harley crowd is more scared of a scooter following them then we would if it was the other way around. But I have noticed alot of Harley guys are buying their women those pink Sun-L 250 scoots. Ive seen three in the local biker bar parking lot last weekend. I know alot of rocket bike riders and my girlfriend laughs at me everytime one of them sees me and blast up next to me in the intersection or on the road, I jump like a little sissy everytime.

Speaking of Harley guys, the median income of Harley riders is over $80,000. We happened to be in Billings a couple years ago during the Harley "convention" there.....didn't notice any scooters mixed in, though...

Its fun to talk to a Harley rider at a light. If you've pulled up almost next to one and he's trying to ignore you, raise the shield on your ff just a bit, smile, say what a great day it is be riding and tell him what a great looking bike he has. Its fun. You'll feel good because you were nice. I've had guys on big Harley's completely ignore me and others just as nice as can be and start asking questions about my scooter. Ya never know.

That's a much nicer version of that little quip than the one I heard! lol.. It was all in fun, but it's still like a little jab. Oh well!!! I just let it go, and don't expect much from people when it comes to scooters unless they actually ride one... the "metrics" do make me giggle though... lol...
