First service, $11.50, Buddy 150

I just completed my first service at home at 180 miles.
Changed oil and filter, gear oil and checked valves. The valves are within spec.
Other that the fact that there isn’t much room; the scoot is easy to work on if you have previous experience.
Cost was $10.00 for the oil filter and $1.50 for the oil (Mobil Delvac 15W40).

No, but you MUST get it checked out by a LICENCED dealer before 500 miles. Anything over that, and it will be voided. You can do you own oil change before 500, but you still need to take it to the dealer before 500. All this can be found on your warranty certificate.

Ok, wonder if it is different for the 2008 Buddy's.

We had previous post on this, the scooter dealer I bought my scooter from recommended closer to 600 miles. There thinking is that the Buddy scooter does not have the metal shavings like the Chineese scoots.

Probably varies by dealer.

Did you use synthetic oil? Just curious.

I wouldn't wait for 600 - the warranty DOES NOT vary, however dealer recommendations might. Take it in at 500 anyway, make him sign your manual.

And I don't know about synthetic oil...there's some threads on it already if you want to try searching

No, I don’t think I would have a warranty problem for a couple of reasons.
One, when I bought the scooter my dealer charged me to set-up and inspect it. So I’ve already paid for my first service.

Second, and much more fun, I believe that the Magnuson Moss warranty act prohibits the warranty from requiring that only services or parts from a Genuine dealer can be used unless the parts or service is provided for free.

Here is an excerpt from Magnuson Moss 2302 (c) if you are interested:

I hope I’ll never need warranty repairs but if I do I’ll let you know how it goes.

What spec did you use for valves?

How did you check your valves? Is it pretty easy? Any disassembly required? I'm curious to learn how.

Also, what buddy do you ride? a 50 or 125/150? Usually the oil change for the 125/150 is both the motor and gear oil.

I ride a 150. And yes I changed both the gear oil and engine oil but they are not shared oil if that is what you are asking?

Checking the valves is easy if you're handy with tools. You need to remove the plastic cover (about 5 screws) then remove the valve cover (four bolts and slip off the breather hose).
Then pop off the rubber cover for the timing marks (near the oil dipstick).

I think I saw a post on this in the tech section. You may want to search for that. I also took pictures as I worked.
