Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo.

Sorry if they are repeats!

Do not get the Japanese stuff at all, either on television or the comic books (excuse me: "graphic novels"). Got a taste of it when my son was into it but much prefer 60s stuff. Gimme Loonie Toons and Tom & Jerry any time. Except the limp T & J they made later. If the cat and mouse talk, it's just wrong.

Ya know, Marvin the Martian would be the perfect scooter mascot.

No Gurren Laggan fans? Surprised. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't already like anime, though. :)

Manga!

Kind of like anime, manga is as diverse as "movies" are in the US. It's read by everyone of all ages and encompasses all genres, from historical stories and adult dramas to the sic-fi and fantasy stuff we're more familiar with. Of course, most of what gets published here in the US is the more teen and geek-oriented stuff filling the bookshelves at Barnes & Noble. Some of the "classics" and other types of books get published here, too, but they're not as ubiquitous.

What he said:P also, much of Anime is NOT geared to children. For some reason, Americans tend to think that just because it's animated means it's only for kids. The Japanese see it as just another film medium, and many popular Anime productions aren't anywhere kid related (Like Cowboy Bebop, Witch Hunter Robin and Gantz). With animation, you can do any setting without the budget. Historic drama? No problem. Sci-Fi? Easy. Epic war movie? Cheap. No sets to build, but focus on the artists are key.
"Earth" without Art is just "Eh"...

It does indeed abound here. The Books-A-Million display runs to the tens of feet. Mind-boggling.

Tenchi Muyo rocks. And Oh! My Goddess. Keichi rides a motorcycle and races. And his girlfriend is a goddess. Well, Ryoko ain't so bad either, for Tenchi's sake she's usually on his side. I am 56 and raised on the classic animation/marionette shows....I was a big fan of the series Fireball XL5, and Stingray. Venus and Aqua Marina. What more could you ask for at 10 years old? I got to see the Flintstones on prime time, with Winston cigarette ads between scenes. Good stuff. Kind of like the new Looney Tunes show, Daffy Duck with a girlfriend that puts up with him? Sounds like my wife. She puts up with me...woo woo!

LUCKY!!! One of my friends on the West Coast is going this weekend too.

When Conqueror of Shambala came out a theater here showed it. It was so much fun seeing it in a public space.
