Derestricting Buddy 50

Post by Magmir »

I found out earlier today that the Buddy 50 I bought and am picking up tomorrow hasn't been de-restricted. Is this something I can do myself? If not, I found a shop that will do it for $100 and I plan on taking it there ASAP. How slow will it go when it's restricted? When it's de-restricted? Thanks!

When restricted they only hit about 30 mph, with poor acceleration. Once unrestricted they will go 45 mph with much more pick up. The restrictors are a washer sandwiched between the exhaust pipe flange and cylinder and a spacer on the variator. It only takes about 20 minutes to remove both. $100 seems a lttle steep to me.

Thanks for the info. $100 seems way too steep for 20 min of work - is this something I can do myself? If so, where could I get the directions?

Derestricting Buddy 50

As the 125 is not restricted to start with, $50 sounds like too much to me too.

we payed $40 which I didn't think was bad, and definitely worth it. It was fun before being derestricted but even more fun after!

two forms of restriction

Post by bamboo »

Just wanted to mention in case it wsa forgotten - the buddy 50 has two forms of restriction 1. in the exhaust - washers, 2. in the clutch (?). I had the shop do both mine and my wife's buddy. I agree its much better ride after the derestriction. More usable power bandwidth!
