I'm guessing that it typically isn't necessary to take the caps off the battery when you are charging it--else why would some people talk about using a cigarette lighter adapter to charge with...?
So what is the scoop? Do you have to take the caps off and leave them sitting askew while on a trickle charge, or just when you want to check the battery to see if it needs more distilled water?
I've see lots of posts about battery tenders, but don't remember seeing this addressed. Sorry if this was covered in a post already...

Since we are on the subject. I Removed the battery successfully (it is now charging on a 12v tender as recommended). I did see something while I was removing it that did nor show up on the video posted. It is the red and black thingies with loops, same kind as used with tender but they were in the bike wiring. When I removed screws they sort of popped off with the square contacts and I do not remember if they were directly under the screws or between the square things covering the battery square contacts. Am I making sense? I am hoping someone when putting beck their battery in the spring would again post step by step pictures or video.

The caps in standard lead acid batteries are vented. They don't need to be removed for trickle charging. If you have an AGM glassmat battery it is sealed and you don't add water.
