Denver CO, to Boulder CO?

Post by un_designer »

Denver/Boulder people... is there a safe route to go from downtown Denver to East Boulder (55th/Arapahoe)? Has anyone made the trek? I have portions of the route mapped out via in-roads, but there are places in between that I am not familiar with and need help connecting the routes. I'll post the routes I have so far up in a little bit.

UPDATE: so here is the route starting in East Boulder heading in the general direction of Denver. I'm stuck at McCraslin Blvd... not sure which way to go next.

You can take the way into Boulder that you show... but McCaslin also hits South Boulder road. From there you can take 76th to Baseline then take a jog over to 75th which will intersect Arapahoe. These are nice country-type roads perfect for the Buddy. On the other end... I have taken Indiana to get to McCaslin (you will have to travel west on Hwy 120 for 1/4 mile to get onto McCaslin from Indiana). People go 55mph on Indiana (especially during rush hour), but Buddy keeps up okay. Occasionally I have had to pull over to let people pass. To get on Indiana from Denver travel up any road that hits 72nd or 80th Avenue and then head west until you intersect with it.

speer to 32nd. turn left
32nd to sheridan, -right
sheridan to 120th - left
then from 120th its a loopdy loop ramp thing; it puts you right on 287
turn right on interlocken blvd.
Left on flatiron cir.
Flatiron Cir turns into Coalition rd. which just so happens to run into McCaslin. The route that i just listed is a safe one. I ride it on sundays with my ZX-50. Speed limits are not more than 45mph. The only hard part is the interlocken loop/blvd/cir it's a cluster there.

The RTD Ruckus ride did the denver-boulder ride down wadsworth, however speed limits were much higher. (55mph or more) on a 50cc like i owned i nearly shat myself. I'm maxing out and/or climbing a hill while cars are blasting by...

thank you both for the suggestions. i ended up taking this route, to stay more diagonal and closer to highway 36 and stay out of roads that are too fast.

Glad to see you still used Cherryvale Road. I used to live at Arapahoe and 287 (pre-scooter), and loved to travel Cherryvale in or on whatever vehicle I was using at the time. :)

isn't that the road that runs by the small airport?

there is/was nice little store place I got a smoothie from on the road that 128 dead ends into?

Not exactly the same route query as the original subject, but has anyone here tried to run their scoot up one of the canyons? I want to do a ride up Boulder Canyon/Lefthand/or up via Lyons...maybe go all the way up to Trail Ridge Rd. I am a little concerned about the Buddy having enough steam to keep pace with traffic up the steep sections of the canyons. Don't want to be getting passed all the time on the narrow twisties.

Last week I rode up to the summit of Flagstaff mountain. No problems keeping up with traffic. I'd be concerned going up Boulder Canyon because the cars drive up very fast, and there's a lot of them.

Have you tried http://maps.google.com/ ?

There is a nifty "avoid highways" option that's really cool.

From downtown Boulder to Lyons to Estes Park....
36 out of boulder to Lyons, then up and up and up to Estes park

A long but safe bicycle ride for me a few years ago.
The cars, trucks, trailers and campers were all very courteous to me on that route and would imagine they would respect a scoot equally.

Going back down, the vehicles shouldn't have to do any waiting, you'll be riding the brakes on the scoot! for sure.
