50 Italia Upgrades

Post by GJLawyer »

Been lurking for a bit checking out what people have to say and felt it was time to chime in now that I can say what happened with me.

1. Parted my own “stage 1 kit” using the Prima Pipe, Dr. Pully roller weights (6gr) and the higher compression spring – Well worth it. The midrange and top speed improved quite a bit; left the stock air box on and no rejetting. Only issue was you could hear it struggle to breath a bit. I had this step done by the local shop. Ran it this way for a month and was pleased, but wanted to improve and smooth the power out.

2. Added a UNI foam filter and instantly was running wildly lean. I upped the main jet by .10 – Again well worth it. No improvement in performance so to speak, but the power curve is much smoother. I did this one and it’s cake after the Prima Pipe was in. No need to monkey with bodywork since there is more space to reach around the pipe.

3. Set of gold bar ends mainly for appearance and smooth out some buzz at idle – Minimal change, but they aren’t meant to do more than what they do which is remove some buzz from the 2 stroke and be fun to add to a 50. Also my handy work.

Think my next adds are a 70cc cylinder, “chrome” fender, new headlight bulb, and possibly do some more CVT work. I’ll let you know what happens.

Oh, please keep posting results, the information I’ve gleaned from old posts has saved a lot of time and headaches. Added some pics below.

Have fun.
