Help! My seat is stuck!!!!

Post by lindz10384 »

I went riding last night, and being female, have a purse. I put it in the underseat storage with my phone and everything. The seat hasn't really popped open since I got it, but if you pulled slightly, it always did, so I didn't think anything about it.

Now, the seat is completely stuck and will not open. When you turn the key you hear a click where it's trying to release the latch, but it's like it won't fully disengage. I've tried wiggling the seat, putting pressure on it first and then releasing it, spraying WD-40 into it, and pulling on it hard to no avail. What do I do, because I have to get that seat open?!?!

It's a Buddy 125, btw.

sounds like you just got the scooter. the best bet would be to just swing by your local scooter dealer where you got it from and have them take a look at it. if you bought from a 3rd party, here's a list of dealers in Georgia that i got from Genuine's site:

In the technical library here there is a tutorial for adjusting the seat latch. As it loosens with time, it will fail to pop.

Thanks for that! I've only had my buddy 2 months and my seat latch is already almost not working at all. I have to turn the key and pull up on the seat and sometimes try a few times.

Did you try pushing the key in > turning it to the unlatch position, then holding the key in that position while opening the seat ( or having someone else open the seat) simultaneously?

Definitely try that. I've had some fabric or other nonsense get caught in the latch mechanism and that is exactly what it took.
Good luck!

I'm guessing this is a common failure on new Buddys. I had to adjust the latch on my 125, which I got used with only 500 miles on it. Since it's opened by way of a cable, I can see how that would stretch a bit on a new scooter. Once you've adjusted it, it should be good for a long while. I never had an issue with my 150's seat latch in the entire 7,000+ miles I had it before it's demise.
