Seized variator

Post by 2wheelNsanity »

Well, its oil change time again and that means clean the CVT and check the belt. After taking the variator drive plate off the shaft I tried to pull the variator off and it wouldn't budge. I tried light tapping to losen it but no luck, could this have been a result from my accident? Has anyone else experienced this?

It's possible the variator backing plate could have been notched against the crankshaft. If that's the case, it will be harder to take off. See what you can do to add a little bit of heat to expand the metal a bit. Worst case, you would need a universal pulley remover, one that's long enough to fit the arms past the crank shaft extension.

Is it just the back plate or the whole thing? The back plate can be stubborn. I often give mine a whack with a rubber mallet.

It's the back plate, going to the parts store tommorrow to get a gear pulley :D and a 39mm socket for the clutch. I am ordering a new variator, clutch, and rollers in 500 miles, I'll wait till then to pull it off. Ty for the help :D .
