3.50 rear tire on a Buddy 50

Post by teckhardt »

Will it fit without the rear fender in place?

If you have done it, please post your results.

Have you done it?

I am also wondering about the performance loss. Guesstimate is about a 6% increase in diameter. Can't find specs on weight but sure there is an increase there as well.

Increased diameter would prob help top end speed but would hinder acceleration along with the extra weight it is pushing.

I've done it. You must remove the rear fender. I don't recommend doing it because the frame gets wrecked from all the road salt and oil that comes off that rear tire.

How did it affect performance?

May build a replacement mudguard if required.

It rides great with the bigger tires. However, after a year of riding that way I hit 30,000 miles and then the rear tire siezed up. I think the bearings went and the oil leaked out. I did not bother confirming my suspicions but I am basing it on subtle noises I noticed in the last week of riding coming out of the rear wheel. I got my $ out of that scooter so I can't complain. I do not think that the tire size contributed to the bearings failing after all of that mileage. It is possible though. Any mechanics know on here for sure ?
