Buddy 50 Dirty Little Secret
So I've been talking to my mechanic about some various mods for my Buddy 50. I have found out that when looking for an exhaust you aren't limited to just the Prima pipe that is on so many sites. According to my mechanic the Prima pipe is lame. Pipes that fit 50 cc Minarelli scooters will fit the Buddy. That means that Zuma 50 pipes will fit it. He claims he has put a Zuma hand made pipe onto a Buddy 50 and had amazing results. I know that when looking for pipes they all look the same (for the most part). He tells me it's all about the inner workings.
1) Has anyone else discovered this?
2) Has anyone had success with adding other pipes onto their Buddy?
3) Has anyone found one that get's a better bang than the Prima?

The OP is referencing a exaust for a two stroke engine.......these are expansion chambers and are configured to create a reverse pulse, called reversion, in the exaust chamber.
This is to prevent/reduce the fresh fuel mixture from being scavenged (drawn out) of the cylinder when the exaust port is uncovered.
A four stroke, such as your 125, is the inverse and can respond well to a scavenging effect to help evacuate the cylinder of exausted fuel and assist in cylinder filling of a fresh charge.

I also am looking for a performance exhaust for my buddy 50.I noticed the zuma 50 is a 4 stroke and the buddy 50 is a 2 stroke. Does that matter when purchasing a expansion chamber exhaust??? 2T vs 4T?? and if it doesn't, does the year of the zuma 50 matter when ordering? or is it one size fits all..... thx

The exhaust pipes for a 2-stroke and 4-stroke are not interchangeable. See tech explanation above.johnb wrote:I also am looking for a performance exhaust for my buddy 50.I noticed the zuma 50 is a 4 stroke and the buddy 50 is a 2 stroke. Buddyraton's graphic pretty much nails it. My only caution is to realize that, without other changes, this type of exhaust will almost always result in a lean running condition. On 4 stroke engines, this is not good. On two stroke engines it's a disaster. As in grenade. If you're not familiar with carb rejetting and intake tuning, as well as plug chops, do not just slap an after market exhaust on and go. you'll be walkin in a very short time.

Yeah I've blown up my heavily modified 166 with a custom expansion chamber a couple of times. Once was an air leak at the head and the second...well let's just say that it's not the best set up for running WFO at 60-65 through Texas for 6 hours straight!

I'm going to confirm this... before you really start to dig into what you want vs what performance gain you're expecting... you need to plan it out.
What I've done is taken a LeoVince HandMade 70TT pipe made for a 2007 Zuma and it fits perfectly on the RH50 (yes, I've got a 70cc jug). I've also been able to confirm the same pipe fits on the Buddy50 (stock, but make sure you look at the 50cc pipe instead of the 70cc pipe). One of the reasons why I went with this particular pipe was to be able to make adjustments to the mount points easily if needed. Take a look at some of the online pics, you'll notice the header mount is an extra piece that fits on the expansion pipe and held together with a couple tight springs. I was ready to build a new mount plate, fabricate it up and mass produce it selling it to anyone interested. Well, the exhaust fits so well, there's no need to change any bit of it.
Buddyraton has it right... there's a bit of science, art, and mystery in tuning it all together so you still have a wonderful mocha color. Don't try to replace the exhaust and hope for miracles to happen, it's all gotta be done at the same time to tune it right.

Finally
Finally a response that even comes close to actually answering my questions. Now on a side note I've seen several zuma 50 2ts with the buddy motor so I'm not sure where you saw the 4 strokes. Maybe they are the new zumas.

Ok .So just to be clear I have a 2007 buddy 50 and I should order a 2007 LeoVince HandMade 50TT pipe made for a 2007 zuma 50.Being a newbee on this ,I appreciate your patience. Also is there any extras i need to install the pipe or does it all come in the package. I apologize by saying the zuma 50 also has a 4 stroke, I think im wrong...lol

The very best person to talk to about this is Dave over at Scooterworld in Overland Park. he has been an amazing bit of help and reasearch learning together with me. since you are local if you ever want to check it out in person just let me know... I live up north near Parkville. It isn't a simple plan... but the way everything bolts together is amazing and simple.
as for a link... that place is currently out of stock, but Dave at scooterworldkc.com knows where to get them currently I have notified ScooterWorks and Enviromoto of my findings... hopefully they will start offering more soon.

He is the one that told me of this. I was asking on here to confirm or deni what he said. He does all my work and I trust him but its always good to hear from others.spr0k3t wrote:The very best person to talk to about this is Dave over at Scooterworld in Overland Park. he has been an amazing bit of help and reasearch learning together with me. since you are local if you ever want to check it out in person just let me know...
