Scooter pulling right?

Post by qazer »

I got into an accident a month or so ago and at first I just thought this was me being overly cautious and feeling the effects of the wind more than usual (winds here ARE regularly 15-20mph), but now I'm questioning it.

I had the shop take a look after the accident and they fixed a few things and said I was good to go so I assumed the bike was fine.

Anyway, today I go a few miles down this stretch of road and the bike is pulling to the when I get above 35mph or so and I'm having to actively try to correct it. The wind was blowing in that direction so I just assumed that's what it was.

On the way back I turn around and go back down the same stretch of road and the scooter was pulling to the right still and this was into the direction of the wind so if anything the opposite should be happening.

Is this just something weird with the road or is the bike perhaps messed up from the accident and they didn't spot it? It's a good 10 miles to the shop, but I might need to take it in and have them take a look I'm thinking.

Thoughts?

Maybe your steering column is mis-aligned and needs to be straightened.

If you aren't so lucky then the fork might be bent, in which case it needs to be replaced.

This is in no way normal right?

Should I even bother driving it to the dealer or just get it towed?

I think they said the fork looked fine when they looked at it the first time, but you'd also think they'd have checked the steering column? Maybe it is just slightly off because it only really happens at higher speeds (or at least is only really noticeable then).

Got off the phone with the shop, they say if it's messed up it is probably a front fork replacement necessary (~$430 w/ labor). Bleh.

I'm going to probably try to ride it for a few more days in different conditions and in different lanes to make sure it isn't just road crowning I noticed today. Not going to be happy if that is what it needs though.

If you made an insurance claim for the accident and it turns out that the fork had bent at that time and was missed you should be able to have the insurance cover the additional costs.
