Are Riders Happier People?

Post by JHScoot »

Or more positive? Perhaps a bit more carefree?

I seem to be more and more since I started riding some three years ago and around 20,000 miles. Just no doubt about it. I was riding around today for work....and felt great. Saw other riders, got a few nod's, offered to trade some guy my red Agility for his red Triumph Daytona at a light. Surprisingly, he didn't bite. Oh well...

And despite my other thread made about almost being hit, it was a great day riding. I saw a young woman on a supersport, black and purple, blasting onto the freeway, ponytail sticking out from her helmet. She was a small woman on a big bike, and she gave me a big head tip as she passed and blasted off. That was awesome to see. Something about a woman on a supersport, or any bike, really, that is just badass. Not sexy exactly, but is it fair to say riding is still primarily a male dominated activity? I think it's fair. So women who ride imo are unique in the best sort of way. I like to see it on the streets be it motorcycle or scooter. You must be badass.

And yes, they looked happy as hell. How could I tell? Well like many riders under the helmet it's posture, riding style, a wave or look, sometimes a smile on the face. But I know every time I greet a rider on the road we have big smiles across our faces. Must be a reason for that, I figure

So, are we a happier lot, us riders? Or is that too simple? I mean some Hells Angels don't seem too happy. But I think I am feeling more free. I hope it continues as I make a jump to motorcycle. Places to ride, things to see. On a bike. For the first time I feel like riding far. The thought of it really does make me happy. I would not know this incredible feeling without.....the ride. I wonder if it's the same for many others, or at least some? Certainly seems more then simply an "activity" to me. It makes me more.....happy. Best way I can put it.

In fact from now on when people ask me what it's like to ride I'll just say it makes a person happy to be alive. I mean, pretty good answer, right?

I'm 30,000+ miles happier. I'd probably only take back 100 of those miles (the ones with hail, ice, sleet, 50mph gusts, and 100 degrees...notice I don't say rain!) I notice Im in an off mood when I have to take the car somewhere.

If riders are happier people, then we should all thank the gods that I ride. :?

I think most of us would say that we're happier than we'd be if we didn't ride.

I'm a ton happier. I hate driving! HATE IT!

It's OK for quick jaunts to the store in the winter, otherwise...bleh.

As one of the more recent converts with a scant 30 miles or so under the wheels and all in great weather, I've gotta say that riding sure is a lot of fun and is a more enjoyable experience.

It would be even better if all those cars weren't out there on the roads!

Since I've been sidelined for the past two and a half weeks due to my accident and the broken thumb that came with it, I'm certainly far less happy than I was a month ago.

Hello BuddyLand:

I think I am happier in a general sense, because I ride a scooter.

I have lots of fun riding.........
so much fun, I deliberately swerve back and forth on the road by several feet wide like a Ham, even at faster speeds. When someone sees me doing that like a Cop, I immediately stop doing that.

If circumstances were that I could not ride scooter anymore, it would take me some getting use to. Meanwhile, I thank God I can ride a scooter. I have a Buddy.

Much happier!!! Hubby took my Kia Soul for the week as he is off supporting a week long bicycle ride. I thought I would be riding Lottie to work all week... not so much rain, rain, rain, and vehicle #3 is a Ram 1500 quad cab pickup - great when I need it to haul stuff ... not at all fun to drive when I want to be scooting... :(
